COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour in the Rye is an American wild ale. A challenging beer to brew due to the substantial amount of rye malt, but you’ll be glad we took the time. The character of the rye asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor, and contributes a full body not generally found in sour beers. Pleasantly sour with notes of tart cherry, rustic earth and vanilla notes from a year-plus of barrel aging.

Pours a bright, hazy, ruby color with a more thin white head. The aroma is extremely sour and tart, acidic, with lots of elements of cherry, apple, and grape. The taste is all tartness and sour. Flavors of cherry and grape are strong. Taste doesn’t pull any punches here. Medium bodied with a more thick texture. Some mild yet bubbly carbonation here. I find this one simply amazing. Of course, if you aren’t a fan of sours, this probably won’t appeal to you. However, if you do like these, you won’t find much thats better than this.

Amber in color, white head with a nice cascading lace. Aroma of sour barnyard, hay, peaches, lemon. Very big and dry on the tongue with more peach, lemon and white grape. Big yet pleasant tartness throughout.

Zlotta (1910) - Hagen, GERMANY - JUL 27, 2016
Sampled from 0.75 l bottle, shared by mariuspoenari, thanks! Hazy, golden amber with an off-white head. Sweetish, sourish-fruity and moderately funky aroma of peach, lemon, rhubarb, oak and some barnyard. Quite sour, very fruity and moderately funky taste of lemon, peach, rhubarb, oak and barnyard, followed by a medium long, rather tart, woody-dry finish. Thin to medium body, quite astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice, but also very sour!

Bottle courtesy of mariuspunari. Hazy amber. Minimal head. Sour grain, rye, hay, grapes, lactic, spices. Strong sour, light minerallike saltiness. Medium body, soft carbonation, minerallike texture, heavy tannins, lactic response.

Bottle to tulip Consummation: Sour peach, cherry, lemon peel, and a hint of something sweet, akin to honey, but no quite. Adjunct: Sour peach/lemon/apple aroma with vanilla; peachy orange colour with a thin creamy tan head and lots of effervescence; medium bodied and approaching puckering sourness

Pours nice copper, some foam but not too much. Aroma is truly sour, intense and raw apple wine-like. Taste is intensely sour, you get beeswax and a bit of honey. I dig the aftertaste but it takes time to get used with the sourness. Great berries, apple juice sourness working miracles.

Bottle: Poured a hazy peachy color ale with a nice large foamy head with limited retention and some light lacing. Aroma of lactic acid notes with quite a bit of vinegar and some oak notes is OKish. Taste is mostly dominated by loads of vinegary notes with some oak and a high-level of acid notes. Body is full for style with good carbonation. I don’t get what the fuss is with this beer. I thought it was really one-dimensional and acidity level wad too high for my liking.

0.75l bottle from Whole Foods Market Tribeca enjoyed at our hotel room. This is a lovely blurry glowing peach orange one with a small light off-white top. It has a sour and fruity aroma with sour peaches, some lemon and lemon zest, some paint thinner, really bretty and there is perhaps a swiff of dark burned rye bread in here. It smells really nice that’s for sure. Nice flavors and the rye is more present here. Lots of sour fruits like sour peaches, grapefruit, picketed lemons and tart wood. The mouthfeel is light oily and it has a average carbonation level. Fantastic refreshing. Shouldn’t, but I think I will finish this bottle here and now before lunch.. 23.06.2013
