COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: This listing is for the Portuguese Brandy barrel aged version.

The traditional sixth anniversary gift is candy or sugar, so we’ve named our 6th anniversary ale "Sucré" which is "sugar" in French. Sucré is our sixth anniversary ale, loosely brewed in the English-style Old Ale tradition using our house Belgian yeast strain. Layered with complex flavors of dark fruit, vanilla, oak, and burnt sugar, Sucré is a robust ale, surely the perfect beer to mark this major milestone.

750-ml bottle. Very sweet aroma of fresh brandy, cloying caramel, hot booze, and a surprising touch of vinegar. Semi-cloudy deep copper in color. Super sweet taste of rich brandy, decadent toffee, burnt sugar, cinnamon, pie dough, raisin, and Tootsie Roll with a minor acetone flavor. Sticky texture; hot, sweet finish. An interesting Anni variant but the brandy is still a bit too sweet for my tastes.

Poured from a Sucre. Aroma is fairly malty with quite a bit of spicy wood notes. Some raisin and dark fruit. A nice spiciness to it and a lot of wood. Pours brown with a bit of a rediish hue and a moderately sized, tan head with moderate thickness. Head shows good retention as it recedes to a thin film, thicker on the edges. Flavor is fairly sweet with a lot of raisin. Quite a bit of oak and tannins. Fruit and oak tannins add a touch of acidity, but not in a tart way. Moderate bitterness and a bit of alcohol warmth. Moderate dark fruit notes. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, a really interesting variant. The Portuguese Brandy character is very odd but works pretty well. Kind of briney and not as fruity as expected.

Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong brandy, wood, raisin. Medium mouthfeel with strong brandy, dark fruit, brown sugar with lingering dryness. Very impressive.

Bottle pours medium murky brown with one finger tan head. Aroma mainly the Sucre old ale with caramel. taste sweet caramel/toffee with brandy, some mustiness and vanilla. Thick palate. Finish mainly the caramel and brandy, slight oak. I enjoyed this quite a bit. Fairly sweet with the brandy and caramel.

Bottle @ Sucreversary. Cloudy amber pour with a small off-white head. Tart raisin and brandy on the nose. Lots of grape, caramel, plum, and vanilla. Slight vanilla and maple. As always, lots of sweetness to this. Tons of caramel, brown sugar, and raisin. Some tart raisin, plum, and grape. Decent amount of brandy, some booze, and vanilla sweetness. Light oak on the back end.
