A Steinís Throw, is an 8.5% ABV amalgamation of a barley wine and a traditional stein beer. We teamed up with the staff over at TAPS Brewery in Brea to make this strong, brown ale. To add an extra layer of complexity, we heated granite rocks up to 900ļ and added it to the wort along with a generous addition of date sugar for added gravity. The result is rich with fruity esters and toffee richness but finishes dry after being fermented with yeast strains special to the Bruery and TAPS.

Bottle at The Tulip Bodegraven. Fruity sweetish dates. Almost flemish sour but too sweet. Likeable. Ken and me talking about Geddy Lee bass playing. Cool

Bottle. Pours a deep copper color with very little head. Very sweet aroma; honey, apple, and caramel. Medium/heavy mouthfeel. This is a very sweet beer. Apple notes throughout along with the caramel. A little boozy at the end. Meh

750 ml bottle from my former Reserve Society membership. Pours a hazy, deep amber with some reddish highlights and a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel and rich toasted malts, brown sugar, and dark fruits (dried cranberries, raisins, and figs). The flavor is well-balanced between the same slate of rich and sweet malts, dark and dried fruits. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and an estery mouthfeel that soaks into the palate the whole way through. Doesnít dry on the finish like it suggests. Nice barley wine.

Bottle 750ml.

Clear medium to dark orange amber colour with a small, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, bread, cookie, caramel, fudge, toffee, wood notes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130215] -

2012 bottle. Pours a clear dark burgundy color with almost no head. Odd nose of sweet grape juice and malt vinegar. Sweet, malty taste with heavy, almost cloying dates, grape must, and a sneaky, nearly hidden booziness. Slightly tart, acidic mouthfeel. Just OK.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a clear deep burnt orange with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice sweet grain note with a touch of light fruit and a good amount of caramel. Flavor starts with sweet grains and caramel and has some dates and light fruits through the finish. A touch on the thin side.
