COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brewed a stout (no, not Black Tuesday, this one is only 5% abv if you can believe it), but we then decided to throw it into oak barrels...and added our special blend of souring bacterias and yeasts. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty sour stout. Not a style you see too often - and in our opinion, not a style you see often enough.
Originally part of the Provisions series.

From the tap. Good carbonation from the deep red ale. Nice foam emits a sour fruit aroma. Sour malts leave a fun finish that is more pleasant than I expected. Good beer.

Draught @ Smoke & Barrel, Washington. Pours flat black. Pure citrus nose. Yeasty hard candy sour flavour. On the edge, but not over it. A half will suffice.

An amazingly good tart beer. I had it from a tap, and it was simply amazing. Even my sour hating wife loved it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice tart aroma, could be a little more prominent though. Taste is just how I like it, very sour. So tasty.

On tap. Clear dark pour with small light beige head. Aroma of vinegar, lemon and cherries. Taste of lemon, vinegar, sour cherries, and very faint chocolate sweetness on the finish. Huge mouth puckering tartness, not my favorite style but quality beer for this style is very evident.

Aroma of molasses, marmalade, lemon juice and chocolate. Pours hazy raisin brown. Taste is chocolate covered prunes, oak, tart citrus, pineapple, and grapes. Very tart and intense. Wood finish. Nice.

Draft at Land O Lakes World of Beer. Pours pitch black with a very thin foamed head. Zero lacing on the glass until you give it a gentle swirl and then you get a brief glistening shimmer that cascades down the glass with a few sparse, sudsy remnants. Aroma has vinegar and sour cherry notes with the most subtle hint of roasted malt. Flavor is beautifully tart up front with some of the roasty richness in the very tail end of the finish. Excellent sour stout!

The beer pours a deep reddish brown, it’s got a small head that doesn’t leave much lacing on the glass.

The aroma is blackberries, some light balsamic vinegar, it’s lightly funky with some roastiness.... but not much roastiness.

The flavor is fairly dry and very tart, nicely sour and lemony with some nice sour cherry & blackberry notes. It’s got what I would say is an acceptable level of balsamic flavor, so it’s fairly low but very much noticeable. The whole "stoutiness" is very subdued, the fight between dryness, sourness, and roastiness can be unpleasant in these types of beers but things work fairly harmoniously in this one.
Not bad!
