COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tart of Darkness is a traditional stout that we aged in used oak barrels from The Bruery that had previously housed beers such as Cuivre™ or Black Tuesday®. We then brought them over to Bruery Terreux, added our special blend of souring bacterias and wild yeasts and watched nature take its course. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty, sour stout. Not a style you will see very often, and in our opinion, not a style seen often enough. This unique stout has notes of tart plums, roasted coffee, vanilla and oak.

Tart of Darkness is a very appealing twist on a stout. Acidity is intense though shy of palate bending. This intensity is balanced by rich malt resulting in huge flavor with quite a bit of complexity. The barrel contribution is restrained and does not result in any dull vanilla flabbiness.

Black pour with minimal tan head. Sour aromas abound. Flavor is very impressive, notes of apple and pear coming through, with a nice oak character. Sour from start to finish. Don’t really get much roasty character but that’s fine with me this beer is solid just the way it is. Very sour though so be ready for it.

As the other reviewers have said, this is a very different beer, reminiscent of the old Sam Adams reserve from about 17 years ago. No carbonation, a bit of licorice and tastes like a sour patch kid. I would rather have a stout or an IPA with a lot of hops for a sour taste. This beer has neither. I guess I don't know what all the fuss is about. I am not impressed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark reddish black with minimal white head. Smells of sour cherries and chocolate and tastes very sour and smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of my favorite sour beers. Very complex, balanced, great medium body with black fruit taste to it, fruity aroma and great oak barrel taste to it. Great overall beer, would definately recommend this beer if you are a fan of sours and stouts
