COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brewed a stout (no, not Black Tuesday, this one is only 5% abv if you can believe it), but we then decided to throw it into oak barrels...and added our special blend of souring bacterias and yeasts. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty sour stout. Not a style you see too often - and in our opinion, not a style you see often enough.
Originally part of the Provisions series.

Oh lord I had this baby out of the big 25.4 oz bottle. Pours out a dark brown/black with little to no head. The smell really comes across as a wine. And the taste is so sour. It really smells and tastes like a super tart wine. Sour grapes come out a lot with each sip. But you also get hints of the oak barrel coming through. The sour aftertaste lingers for a while. If you’re a fan of super sour stuff go for it! But in my humble opinion I’m glad I tried this one. It’s very unique, but not one I’ll be revisiting in the future.

2012 vintage. Almost black. Fizzy head. Aroma is rather subtle. Flavor is deeper. Fruity, wood, barnyard. Medium body. Tart, nice overall tingle, back of throat and tongue, lasting slow tingle. Some roastiness blended in there. Really nice.

7% part of the 3000 yen tasting set at CBB. Winey, barrel, oak, vanilla in the nose with some mild dark malt notes on a brownish-black pour with a minimal head. Exceptionally tart, vinegary, sour & fruity with some berry or cherry notes. Quite a subtle beer meant for sipping, solid but not my favorite tonight.

Serving: Draft at Leesburg Brewing Company. It pours a very dark brown color with virtually no head. Winey, oaky, sour nose. Nice almost lactic sourness up front with medium oak and vinous notes on the back end. Lighter on the palate than you expect based on the color. Tart, dry finish. Good stuff.

On tap at Burnhearts. Brown to black with ruby lowlights and a thin brown receding hairline. Aroma is sour with oak, varnish, vinegar and mild dark malts. Taste is super sour and tart with oak, mild fruit and mild dark malts. Okay, but the darkness is rather muted.

Tap. Dark pour with tan head. Smells very sour and of slight fruit. Tastes like a weak stout for a second then the sour really hits. Not bad but I'm not much if a sour beer fan ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draft, pours black with dark brown highlights when held to a lamp. Acetic notes on the nose, just a flicker of coffee astringency working alongside. Tart lemon, a little wood, dry. Mostly a sour, the stout properties lend more to the body than anything else. Pretty good.
