COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brewed a stout (no, not Black Tuesday, this one is only 5% abv if you can believe it), but we then decided to throw it into oak barrels...and added our special blend of souring bacterias and yeasts. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty sour stout. Not a style you see too often - and in our opinion, not a style you see often enough.
Originally part of the Provisions series.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin! Very black with a hint of deep ruby near the top. Thin khaki film that settles to a thick collar right away. Aroma is lots of wet oak, bloody plums and cherry skins, and apple cider vinegar. Fruity and tart with a damp oak underlayer, there isn’t much stout to the nose. Taste is more like an Oud Bruin than anything... Sour cherries, sweettarts, apple vinegar, ripe plum skins, and lots of wet, faintly musty oak. Again, not much stout... Some deep dark fruits on the very, very back end with more drying, tart oak. I’m okay with the lack of stout, though, because this makes for a very good Oud Bruin.

Coffee, chocolate aroma with sour notes. Black appearance with tan head with avg head retention. Flavor contains notes of red currants. Roastiness is mild and smooth. A high level of sourness is present and lingers in my mouth well into the after taste. Mouthfeel is medium with medium carbonation. Sourness level makes the beer mouth puckering dry. Overall, it's a good American sour. I would prefer a little less sourness though since it overpowers the other complexities of the beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours like a stout. Sour aroma, notes of chocolate, grapes, cherries, and a touch of coffee. Pretty sour taste, nicely balanced with sweet fruit and stout flavours. Comes together quite nicely.

tmrmwel (756) - Bergen, NORWAY - APR 13, 2014
Bottle, 2013. Pours black with a fairly big airy head. Aroma is very nice and sour with burned malts, balsamic vinegar, and a massive fruitiness, as well as deep dark whiffs of oak and leather. Medium body with creamy texture with soft to average carbonation. Flavour has an initial dryness with a tart fruity yeast and funky brett with lemon peel, but develops more rounded fruity and vinous notes of grapes and oak giving a nice and long tart finish.

Poured a merky dark brown. Aroma was a nice mixture of fruit and roast. The taste had a subtle oak up front the it blended with the roast and fruity characteristics finishing very tart and dry.

Bottle, 2013. Pours a dark brown, opaque. Fast dissipating tan head. Aroma is tart, hints of red fruit, oak and funk / yeast. Taste is sour and tart initially, with oak and fruitiness initially transitioning to very light roasted malt undertones. Delicious. Palate is medium body, high carbonation. Overall very good, unique.

Bottle. Lemon tart with a little caramel underneath. Taste is sour, light on palate with a long sour finish. Its basically just a nice sour that’s dark. High drinkability.

Bottle from craftshack. Pours a thin looking dark brow with almost no head. Aromas of blackberry yogurt, dark sour fruit. Taste is very dry and sour. Flavors of seedy blackberry jam, sour kefir, some lemon zest. Very bright sour notes coupled with some dry roast makes this a pretty deep and complex little beer. At a fair price point, I might add. Finishes with a lasting sourness and a light roast. Pretty puckering. I like this a lot.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of sour dark fruits, some light roast and cocoa. Flavour is very lactic and puckeringly sour - very tart and sour, overly sour. Way too lactic and sour for me. Out of balance, sour and vinegary. Another untasteful Bruery vinegar bomb.

Bottle. Pours a brown-copper colour with no head. Smells of leather, raisin and generally sour-like. Flavour is dominated by sourness. There’s nothing that really tastes of stout at all. Enjoyable. 2014-03-29
