COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brewed a stout (no, not Black Tuesday, this one is only 5% abv if you can believe it), but we then decided to throw it into oak barrels...and added our special blend of souring bacterias and yeasts. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty sour stout. Not a style you see too often - and in our opinion, not a style you see often enough.
Originally part of the Provisions series.

75cl bottle, thanks Sean for hauling this from PA to Belgium.

Dark purple mostly black body. Don’t really care for the smell. I’m the only one getting this, but I get a grape cough medicine smell. Luckily, the taste was very good. No medicine. Tart sour roasty flavor. Mild oak flavor. Interesting to be drinking a sour stout.

In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Violet Beauregarde meets a sticky end when trying a gobstopper which changes favour in the mouth to systematically represent each element of a three course meal. This beer does the same. Hold it in the mouth and you really do get a bit of everything. Before that, the nose gives you dark fruit, Brett sourness, milk chocolate and coffee. Tastes include blackcurrants, red wine, balsamic vinegar, wafers, cherry cola, sherbet lemons, lime, sour cherry and a touch of caramel. Chocolate Bourbon biscuits. Something like nettles too. Medium mouthfeel. Almost black with a rapidly vanishing light brown head. As a completely extraordinary, wacky, multi-faceted taste experience, I’ve not had anything quite like it. It’s not a stout. It’s a bit weird. I like it.

Bottle. Pours a near-black deep brown body with a miniscule off-white head. Nose is dark berries, figs, lactic sour notes, lemon juice, raisins, hints of grape peel, red fruits and barnyard funk. Taste is balsamic, vinegar, acetic notes, lemon juice, citric peel, raisins, brown bread and hints of rye, wood and red berries. Medium body and carbonation. Very nice and sour stout; the sour tones are potent and makes out the best of it while backed up by a subtle carpet of stout-ish tones in the back. Highly likable.

Another wonderful brew, lively co2 as expected from here. Garnet to dark fruits somewhat tart but not to overpowering. Lingering sour plum finish.

2013 bottle via and shared with oakbluff. Near back in colour with spitzy carbonation. Aromas are of cherry cola, funky brett, orange liqueur, and some mild roasted malt. Very "wild" tasting, with all sorts of herbal, cherry, red grape, roast, oak, and vinegar notes. Bright and savory on the palate. Complex yet harmonious.

Bottle: vintage 2014: Served in a Chouffe glass at 13 degrees Celsius: Brown blackbeer with a thin beige head/lacing/bubbles. Aroma has that typical Bruery funkyness with some hints of wild yeast, berries, roast, wood and some sweetsour fruit and others... Flavour is good tart, grapes, berries, some wood, sweets, wild yeast, light vinous, good tart but no real burning acidity that reminds of vinegar. Not really complex but the sourness hides some flavours... Aftertaste is tart, tart fruity, light roast, some sweets, bready, vinous, grapes, berries... Low carbo, watery tart mouthfeel, more than medium bodied.

Pours a black beer with a very small, beige head that vanishes quickly. Smells funky, green apples, some red fruit, no roasted malt smells. Tastes really sour. leaves a sour, tangy palate. If i would taste this blind i would be convinced that this is a geuze.

Dark brown, almost black, with a minimal off-white head. Aroma is tart dark fruits, citrus, oak, yoghurt, don’t get so much of the stout notes. Taste is tart cherries, some sweet notes from dark fruits, dry oak and faint vinegar. Finish is dry woody and fruity. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation.
