3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml. bottle. It pours dark brown with a fizzy, disappearing tan head. The aroma has a lot of sour apples with some dark bready malts and hints of oak. Not much roasted malt. Not too acetic so far. The flavor has big time lemon pucker at the front and lasts all the way to the finish. Some decently strong balsamic as well. I’m not picking up a lot of stout here at all until the aftertaste which has a little dirt and ash. As it warms, I get a lot more vinegar, but the lemon tartness cuts it enough to keep it from being too abrasive. Overall, this is a very sour beer that, if I was blindfolded, I don’t know if I would know that the base beer was a stout.

Aroma is a nice vinous sour with some dark fruit aroma as well. Do not get much, if at all, of a stout smell or roasted malt. Maybe some dark cherry and oak in the aroma. Taste is vinous sour. Prob 8 or 9 of 10 on my scale. Get dark fruit flavors, maybe some oak, and maybe slight roasted malt. Would not pick the base as a stout if I didn't know. Occasional hint of roasted malt or coffee, but that's all. Sour dominates, but flavors are fantastic.

It feels too thin to be a stout, but it’s a great sour. Great level of tartness.

Bottle. Pours dark chocolate brown with moderate off white head. Aroma is malt vinegar, cherry pie, and a slight hint of dark roast that really makes it. Flavor is sharply acetic upfront: vinegar with notes of a dark fruity red wine. Lip smacking tanginess from the dark acetic and acidic notes. A lingering red fruit sourness. Not as much stout in there, as this comes off more as a flanders red... but frankly, I don’t give a shit because it’s delicious.

Provisions version....Been fearful
Dark leathery brown with some tam foam. Smells of molasses with a sour cherry and some lemon skin. Flavor is a nice, well less stout, but more brown ale with a good amount of clean plumy, lemon, lactic and cocoa, coffee, some vinegrated character. I’m really impressed with how much I like this. Fuck. Nice medium bodied with sharp and resonant carb with a dry finish. Nice beer. Really nice beer.

This is a #$@₩ joke.

Dark brown/black color; Medium body; Aroma of sweet malt, yeast, sour dark fruit, & some vanilla; Flavor of slight roasted sweet malt, yeast, oak, sour dark fruit (notably prunes & berries), some chocolate notes, and spice; Finish is dry & sour/tart; Nicely balanced; Overall, not overly complex - but I enjoyed.

Oh lord I had this baby out of the big 25.4 oz bottle. Pours out a dark brown/black with little to no head. The smell really comes across as a wine. And the taste is so sour. It really smells and tastes like a super tart wine. Sour grapes come out a lot with each sip. But you also get hints of the oak barrel coming through. The sour aftertaste lingers for a while. If you’re a fan of super sour stuff go for it! But in my humble opinion I’m glad I tried this one. It’s very unique, but not one I’ll be revisiting in the future.
