Wandering into a serendipitous meeting in Boonville led to the forging of a relationship between City Beer Store and The Bruery and a beer collaboration worth celebrating. Cheers to five years! Suitable for aging up to five years if cellared around 55F (13C). Ideal serving temperature is 50F (10C). Please pour carefully, leaving the sediment behind in the bottle. Best served in a tuilp or wine glass.

Sampled during RBWG Tampa 2015. Medium amber pour with a small off-white head. Nose is moderately acetic. Some tart red berry skin. Cranberry and cherry. A bit of toasty malt. Caramel. Flavor is initially pretty tart with a sweet malty ballast. Toasted grain. Moderate spice. Soured dark fruit skin. Lip-puckering. Medium body, soft carb.

Cloudy brown color. Lots of oak, cherries and blackberries. Medium light body, that is very tart with lots of cherries and oak. Very well balanced. Superb.

Red Amber pour. Aromas of mossy oak, sour fruit. Taste is decidedly tart. Will remove enamel from teeth. Solid.

The badboy showed up on the bus tour back from Athens. In a big day of beer this was one of the best. Acidic berries, wood, cherry, nicely carbonated. Very nice.

A steady pour into my New Belgium globe glass produces a three finger thick, overflowing, creamed amber colored head. The beer is a dark, concentrated amber / dark-brown color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright red stained, amber-highlighted hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of dark, pie cherries; floral, richly berry like, and with a tart, freshly crushed blackberry character. The fruit character is huge and expressive and is easily the dominant note; it is actually quite hard to smell anything else. If you really dig there seems to be a touch of phenolic character that is not quite plastic like, and in truth this seems to come from the dark cherry skins rather than the fermentation character.

Tart up front, but this moves to a sharper sourness as the beer rolls across the palate. A big fruit character is here with the blackberries leading the charge up front, but with the cherries adding a tannic skin character and a rich concentrated cherry flavor to linger in the long finish. A touch of malt character plays a barely supporting role, but adds some toasted, browned grain character, which is accentuated by a toasted oak character that is also fairly restrained. The body has a certain fullness to it without being heavy; the beer is actually quite quaffable. The finish has a light sweetness that is brought out by the fruit character and the acidity, and may in fact just be a perceived thing as I am not sure there is much in the way of residual sugars left in this beer. The acidity is predominantly lactic in character but there is a bit of sharper notes that seem to be more fruit derived than something like acetic acid, which I find to be too sharp at times.

This is a nice, simple, sour fruit beer; it could certainly use a bit more funkiness, or a richer malt character, but the truth is that this would then detract from the clean showcase of cherries and blackberries that this beer achieves.

2013 bottle. Muddy brownish copper pour with a huge foamy pour that fades to a thick ring. Aroma is funky cherry skins, huge vinegar, oak, and berries. Moderate to strong sour taste and a very big tartness. Packed with vinegar, cherry skins, and tart blackberries. Intense and hard to drink. Very acidic. Sorta fun to drink but it’s way to extreme for me to love.

2013 bottle. Super tasty. I believe this is a blend of Oude Tart and Bruery’s Anniversary ale with maybe one more component. Drinks mostly like Oude Tart with a bonus big malty touch and extra fruit. Oak, fruit, sweet malt. Solidly tart finish. Pretty different and very good.

Bottle at RBWG. Nicely done sour. Cherry, citrus, caramel malts. Tart, acidic. Crisp and nice.
