COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Summer seasonal, Trade Winds Tripel is a Belgian-style Golden Ale with a Southeast Asian twist. Instead of using candi sugar (typical for such a beer), we use rice in the mash to lighten the body and increase the gravity, and spice with Thai Basil. The result is an aromatic, digestible and complex beer made for a lazy summer evening. (ABV: 8%, IBU: 25, SRM: 5, Release: Summer, Format: 750 mL bottles)

Bottle 750 ml at home, into a tulip glass. ABV 8.1% Bright golden orange colour with a crystal clear body, continuous activity in it. Two fingers of white and thick head on top, good retention, collapses slowly to hald a centimeter of foam and leaves light lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet, honey-like, when poured at first. After it sits a while in the glass, it gets aromas of herbs, I donít know how exactly Thai basil smells like but here it brings to mind coriander, only much sweeter. The rice is also notable somewhat but again sweet and in no case reminds of an adjunct. Taste is fruity, quite sweet, with spices, herbs and yeast on it. Again coriander in combination with anise. Medium thin body, average carbonation, very dry on the palate. Overall very good.

Huge cloud like white head, took awhile to pour this one. Didnt get the thai basil in this one. Did pick up the rice and beer had a nice sweet and sour balance

750ml bottle, shared with friends over a game of Catan. Clear golden color. One-finger thick off-white head. Dots of lace. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Full body. Lightly dry texture, lightly soft. Kind of buttery, but itís not too bad here, kind of works with the other flavors. Light spiciness, some belgian yeast aroma. Light candy sugar. Moderate sweet taste, light spicy bite. Lots of haze in the final pour. Interesting stuff. Buttery, but not awful. Kind of works. May be one of perhaps only 3 clear diacetyl infections Iíve experienced.

Orange coloured and almost clear. Has a white head, lasting. Sweet aroma, yeasty, light bubblegum, wax, light astringent. Flavor starts sweet, some ripe fruity notes too. Light acid, yeasty too. Light bitter finish. Creamy texture.

Bomber that was purchased Aug 2012. Cloudy, orange gold with a huge, white, airy cap that reduces to uneven froth. Aroma of "sweet n sour" sauce, vinegar, yeast, tart white grapes, caramel, apricot. Taste is mildly, yet perfectly, sweet and tart.

Bottled. Pours hazy golden with a medium, sized white head. Aroma of yeast, caramel, a citrus touch and some spicy notes. Sweet flavor that ends up dry. Medium bodied, oily text. and soft carb. A quite special and very nice triple.

Slightly hazy golden pour with a big white head. Aroma has notes of sweet malt and just a pinch of basil. Flavor is similar, the rice adds a different character to this beer all around, itís a lighter experience and a different sweetness flavor to it than your typical tripel. Very easy to drink. Overall, a nice pleasant, and refreshing brew. A good change of pace from your classic tripel.

The Sampler, Brooklyn 750ml ($15): Pours slightly hazy golden with a large white head. Aroma is nice yeast, loads of fruitiness, some spice, but I certainly didnít get the particular aroma of Thai Basil on my nose. Taste is really not all that different from a normal tripel. It is, perhaps, less sweet, but it doesnít feel more Southeast Asian to me. This is not to say that I didnít enjoy every sip of the beer, it is just to say that I enjoyed it more conventionally. Complex and well-balanced.

No bottling information.
Appearance: The body is perfectly clear with a massive amount of carbonation present in the amber body, champagne level. The head erupts on the pour forming a tall, dense, and persistent white foamy head. Great looking beer.
Aroma: The aroma is clean and mild. I get some herbs with mild lemon, honeysuckle and a very delicate candy like sweetness. This smells nice, but it needs more umph.
Taste: The flavor is interesting, mildly herbal with a prominent sweetness throughout with hints of spices throughout and a dash of floral perfume. This drinks very nicely, the balance is great. The finish is semi-sweet with a light lingering of the sweetness and mild spice.
Palate: Full-bodied and highly carbonated.
Overall: I have passed this up many times but itís a very enjoyable beer. I like the balance through the beer and I like the subtle nuances. This is likely pretty old, itís not a quick moving beer, so Iím guessing that itís held onto its age nicely.
