COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Summer seasonal, Trade Winds Tripel is a Belgian-style Golden Ale with a Southeast Asian twist. Instead of using candi sugar (typical for such a beer), we use rice in the mash to lighten the body and increase the gravity, and spice with Thai Basil. The result is an aromatic, digestible and complex beer made for a lazy summer evening. (ABV: 8%, IBU: 25, SRM: 5, Release: Summer, Format: 750 mL bottles)

Poured a cloudy orange-gold with a huge rocky white head that stuck around. Good lacing. Tropical fruit aroma with cider, some banana, and basil. Very carbonated, lighter mouthfeel. Big, bold fruity taste. Lots of apricots, peaches, strawberry, mango, passionfruit, and a melange of tropical fruit. Herbal background which is very sweet, presumably from the rice. Slightly sour bite in the finish, more tart fruit. The flavor was so big, it made the beer less drinkable, though. Its not necessarily a bad thing, but when it comes to trippels, I didn’t expect such a big beer. Definitely find a friend to share the bottle with.

Shared bottle @ "Schouskjelleren", Oslo, with some other beer geeks. October 09, 2014. Beer enjoyed from a snifter glass. Dark cloudy golden color with a thick white creamy head and medium carbonation. Aroma is citrus, herbs, yeast, spices and some dark sugar. Tastes citrus and a bit sweet with a slightly warm alcohol feeling and finish.

Pours nicely and fills in with a nice head. Dark blonde in color with a good bit of carbonation. Smells and tastes of fresh grass and Meyer lemons. Easy to drink and stays refreshing on the tongue. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle: Very hazy, golden body. Foamy, volatile head; huge, lasting, foamy, lightly creamy, & somewhere between off-white & beige in color. Aroma is spicy, herbal, & fruity all at once. Golden fruit from the yeast, light clove, bubblegum, basil, oregano, herbal tea leaves, faint pepper, sweetbread, honey. Lots to take in. Very gummy flavor, heavy yeast. Bubblegum, banana, pear. Basil, herbal spiciness is still very present, though. Faint white pepper, bread, mild clove, just a faint hint of phenols. Semi sweet honey & golden fruit in the finish with a slight twinge of basil & other various herbs. Bold bodied, somewhat thick. Different take on a classic tripel. Not bad in smaller samples, but it can wear you down quickly.

Bottle from Antenna America. Basil, lemon, booze, tripel sweetness, grainy. Everything you’d expect from a tripel but something not quite there for me.

Bottle at The Bruery tasting at Beer & Beyond shop. Hazy yellow with a huge frothy head. Fruity estery aroma with spicy and yeasty notes. Sweet, fruity, spicy, light tartness, well balanced, alcohol is pretty hidden, a bit soapy. Medium-bodied, high carbonation. Well-made.

Bottle at the share. Pours a light colored yellow in a small snifter. Frothy white head. Some lacing. Aroma of herbs, basil, lemon, cereal, hay, grass, and fresh air. The taste is herbs, basil, fresh light citrus, Belgian yeasts, and sweet candy sugars. Medium body, great carb that tickled the palette. Finish is sprite and refreshing.

Bottle from W&M Mansfield. Poured into a tulip. A hazy medium amber brew. Big white head - somewhat overcarbonated. Nice aroma. Different. Slightly earthy with lots of fruity-spice notes. Flavor is clean and drinkable. Some vanilla-oak notes. Very refreshing. Nicely done!
