COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Summer seasonal, Trade Winds Tripel is a Belgian-style Golden Ale with a Southeast Asian twist. Instead of using candi sugar (typical for such a beer), we use rice in the mash to lighten the body and increase the gravity, and spice with Thai Basil. The result is an aromatic, digestible and complex beer made for a lazy summer evening. (ABV: 8%, IBU: 25, SRM: 5, Release: Summer, Format: 750 mL bottles)

Poured a cloudy orange-gold with a huge rocky white head that stuck around. Good lacing. Tropical fruit aroma with cider, some banana, and basil. Very carbonated, lighter mouthfeel. Big, bold fruity taste. Lots of apricots, peaches, strawberry, mango, passionfruit, and a melange of tropical fruit. Herbal background which is very sweet, presumably from the rice. Slightly sour bite in the finish, more tart fruit. The flavor was so big, it made the beer less drinkable, though. Its not necessarily a bad thing, but when it comes to trippels, I didnít expect such a big beer. Definitely find a friend to share the bottle with.

Rating 1142 - 29.06.2014 - Bottle from CBI. Pour is pretty standard, hazy golden orange with a bubbly white head. Aroma is herbal - thai basil, citrus Mouthfeel is crisp, medium-heavy alcohol character, medium carbonation. Taste is crisp but a bit of a mess for a tripel. Rice in the brew lightens the malt profile, bitterness takes over. Tropical notes present on the palate as well, but just a little all over the place for me.

Pours a hazy bright yellow golden color with white head. Basil, spice, and light fruits on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied, but still a decent mouthfeel. Finishes with basil, spice and a little wheat sweetness.

I was not expecting the Thai basil to be so aromatic. Also, Belgian spice. Not super sweet. Really flavorful. Really light color and body. At its thickest itís a bit orange. This is amazingly drinkable. Love it.

Hazy golden amber. Nose of Belgian yeast spice, citrus fruit. Flavor is light sweet malt with citrus fruit esters and light spice. Fairly well attenuated, but sweet and fruity.

Overall, itís a good tripel experiment. The aroma is typical tripel with some extra floral, spice similar to jasmine rice. Taste is were it loses me a little--I donít really like the addition of the rice because itís noticeable. It adds a sweetness that is a little sickly and over the top. The other spices are nice but mostly destroyed by the sweetness. Finish is surprisingly thick and lingering.

Lot going on with this one. Murky brown gold. Nose of banana, grapes, and herbs. Taste was big candi sugar sweetness, Belgian yeast, Thai spices, and fruitiness. Sticky, big mouthfeel. Interesting tripel.

pours unclear bright golden with a nice off-white cap, frothy at times, some retention and lacing. white grape and pear fruit juices, granulated golden candi, spicy belgian yeast, lots of bitter and woodsy spices and herbs, few fragrant ones - shy basil character which is fine with me; alcohol, honeydew melons, tropical passionfruits. average carbonation, medium body - oily; semi-sweet, astringent herbal-spicy finish. very nice spiced tripel - cohesive. much enjoyed!

On tap at Scion in Silver Spring, MD. Lightly hazy, muted gold with a small off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of yeast, bread, lemon, herbs, cloves and light fruit. Taste of tart light fruit, cloves, yeast, banana, herbs (Thai basil, I assume), orange, lemon and bread. Medium body and and high/medium carbonization that foams up in your mouth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
