wetherel (1151), Encinitas, California, USA Aug 16, 2008 From 750mLbottle at Stone 12th Anniversary Festival. Cloudy yellow amber color. Medium bubble head. I think bubble size is correlated with viscosity and sugar content. I prefer sweet beer with small bubble size, and thus I always comment on it in my ratings. Taste is very dry. Nice saison-ish arom. Maybe some corriander, but I always get that confused with high brewing temperatures. A little hard to drink.
Snojerk321 (1122), San Diego, California, USA Nov 28, 2008 750ml bottle from South Bay Drugs. Poured a glowing golden orange with a big n fluffy off white head. Nose was very fruity as well was the flavor. A great Tripel from a great "Bruery". SDalkoholic (1055), Chula Vista, California, USA Nov 27, 2008 Bottle from South Bay Drugs. Creates a large formation of foamy head while the ale sits as a hazed glowing orange coloration. My nose detects a farmhouse style yeast with an overload of spices but to hard for me to pinpoint for identification. The flavor packs a strong delivery of spiced yeast along with flavors of clove and pepper as well as a warm touch of alcohol. A healthy and heavy rendition of an abbey tripel well deserving of a high score. BMan1113VR (1150), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Nov 27, 2008 Updated: Nov 30, 2008Bottle. Sent in a picture to be uploaded. Pours with a huge, thick, white head and a hazy deep gold body. Great lacing and retention. Aroma is exotic fruits and dried fruits, a sort of herbal sweet basil note, and a touch of brett. Taste is on the sweet side with a bit of spiceyness. The Thai basil (which tastes very different to the Euro-American basil) ands a nice exotic fruity element that balances the sweetness perfectly. Dry and lively mouthfeel with a nice alcohol presence. A truely great beer. m4rest88 (107), Beverly Hills, California, USA Nov 26, 2008 Pours with a light brown hue that is clear and that sits below a white head.
Aroma is of barnyard funk, yeast, hops, and urine.
Fruity/sweet flavor with a slightly bitter, alcoholic finish.
Brewsmith (81), Torrance, California, USA Nov 21, 2008 On tap at the brewery for the AHA rally. Golden color with a white head. Malty aroma, a little alcohol, and the Thai basil comes through a little. Malty, but not sweet, very clean. The basil makes it interesting compared to traditional Tripels. High carbonation, to style and a dry finish. A very unique twist on a classic.
