Tap at Sacramento Brewing. Nutmeg brown color. Barely any carbonation. No head. Faint, buttery nose. Malty like a barleywine with flavors of burnt sugar. Good balance of roast and bitterness.

Draft@ The Bruery July 2009. Clear copper with a lasting tan head. Toasted caramel and spicy alcohol aromas with dark pit fruits. Medium full body. Big pit fruit, earthy spice flavors riding a dark caramel base brew. Warming finish. Great beer.

From tap at the brewery. Pours hazy dark orange with a table off-white head. Aroma is dense caramelish, roasted breadish malt and with a light alcohol bite. Light metallic and yeasty touch. Thick creamy mouthfeel. Dense caramelish and light spiced yeasty base flavour. Light sharpness from the alcohol and dense caramel flavours. Smooth finish yet with a vague burn. Slight sticky final texture.

On tap. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber with a firm and creamy beige head with good retention. Intensely sweet aroma with lots of caramel, wood, Sherry and alcohol. Very full-bodied again with woody notes and hints of Sherry. Extremely warming alcohol in the finish. Nice one. 060709

Tap at Sac Brew. Pours a dark orangey brown with a significant orange tinged beige head. Aromas of caramel and citrus? Full bodied with mild carbonation. Flavor of sweetish roasted caramel, spice and citrus. There’s a pervading fruitiness that seems plummy. Almost seems to be a bit of canteloupe. Nice mouthfeel. A bit sweet, but not sticky. Finishes with a slightly balancing tartness, but dry it is not. Reminds of an aged strong ale in some aspects. Good experience.

The last of a keg at City Beer. Nose of kids medicine, lollipop, roast, brown sugar, dark fruit. Really nice old ale. Doesn’t have the complexity of some (kinda fixes on sweet) but very full and warming.

Draft at City Beer Store in SF. Dark, hazy orangish-brown color with a minimal off-white head. Complex aroma of caramel malt, earth, brown sugar, dark fruit, banana, and Belgian yeast. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, banana, fig, toffee, brown sugar, and mild hops. Alcohol noticeable on the finish but not bad for almost 15%. Medium-full bodied and creamy.

Draft. Rich toffee colored beer with a low off-white head. Big toffee aroma. Toffee and caramel flavor with light earth and light yeast. Medium-plus bodied. Toffee and caramel lingers with light yeast. Alcohol well hidden.
