COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The primary component of our “White Oak” ale is a 100% barrel aged wheat wine that we affectionately refer to as “White Oak Sap.” Essentially a “summer” barley-wine style ale, but made with a wheat heavy grain base, White Oak Sap is aged in used bourbon barrels for nearly a year and comes out rich in flavors of coconut, honey, caramel and vanilla. To compliment the already rich flavors of the beer, we’ve added cacao nibs and vanilla beans to give this beer the delicate flavor of white chocolate…hence the name.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2014 Bottle share thanks to drewface. Aroma of peanut butter. And chocolate. And fudge. Pretty complex. Taste is a bit sweet but has an underlying tartness. Flavor is completely opposite of the aroma. Not bad but not gr8 Rerate. Much better than the infected

Bottle from DrewFace. Pours orange with small white head. Aroma is sweet, nutty. Taste is tart, sweet, coats the tongue. Warms a bit. Not really white chocolate, but I think I like it??

Draft at Blind Tiger with Brendan. Pours a hazy orange amber body with no head or lacing. Aroma is super hot bourbon and some mild vanilla in the back. Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy with notes of bourbon alcohol up front dominating, followed by vanilla, oak, chocolate, honey and maple. The flavors actually worked somewhat together, however the overall booze-dominated character really crippled this for me.

Draft. Golden has pour with white head. Chocolate and vanilla sweet aromas with some oak, bourbon and barley wine like tones. Flavor is sweet and has depth and some warmth, not surprising or such a big beer.

750 ml bottle shared by b3shine (more times since). Pours a clear amber color with a small white head. I had a different picture for this beer going in. The aroma is as advertised; wonderful white chocolate, vanilla, caramel, light cherry like fruits and some alcohol. The flavor is almost over the top sweet, but it works for this beer, White chocolate, vanilla, light cherry fruity notes, caramel, and sometimes comes off as boozy. I don’t mind sweeter beers, but would not want to have a full one of these myself.

Bomber. Sampling session at Lefty’s place. Mild nose of light chocolate, vanilla, strained peaches, powdered sugar, and fumes. Medium straw color, no head. Sweet milky initial, with some tangy oranges and pineapple / mild sweetness in mid (wheat?), and the chocolate and vanilla drop out / finishes with a bit of alc. burn and mild fruity sweetness. Not really recognizable as a wheat wine. But full of marvelous flavors. Great.

Bottled. An unclear amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of vanilla, chocolate, bourbon, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of vanilla, alcohol, chocolate, fruits, and bourbon, leading to a dry finish.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Josh! Sunburst amber and copper with orange, completely opaque. Not much of a head, soapy white and quick to disperse to a broken collar. Aroma is huge & sweet. Rich chocolate cake drizzled with sweet vanilla morsels, some moderate caramel and toffee sweetness, a very light boozy aspect... Very delicate & dessert-like. Taste is sweet, but not cloying at all. Sweet milk chocolate & fudge cake, sticky vanilla, light toffee, caramel, mild bourbon undertaking but very manageable. Light oak, cocoa & vanilla bean finish. Very nice & delicate stuff here. Lots of people complain this is too sweet, boozy, messy, etc., but those are the same people who go nuts for Chocolate Rain & BB9K. Lolwut? I love vanilla, so maybe I’m overstating, but this beer was very enjoyable for me.
