COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The primary component of our “White Oak” ale is a 100% barrel aged wheat wine that we affectionately refer to as “White Oak Sap.” Essentially a “summer” barley-wine style ale, but made with a wheat heavy grain base, White Oak Sap is aged in used bourbon barrels for nearly a year and comes out rich in flavors of coconut, honey, caramel and vanilla. To compliment the already rich flavors of the beer, we’ve added cacao nibs and vanilla beans to give this beer the delicate flavor of white chocolate…hence the name.

Had a weird pretzely element to it that I wasn’t a fan of. The vanilla and chocolate didn’t come through against the overbearing bourbon and honey sweetness. Disappointed, would like to try again in a non-festival setting. EBF 2013.

Pours an orange gold color with a tiny white head. The aroma is very sweet with bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla. Really wonderful on the nose. On the palate there is an odd tartness that underscores and really big sweet white chocolate flavor. This wasn't a bottle from the infected batch (2013) but there is definitely a tinge of sour apple on the lips afterwards. I know the 2014 on draft didn't have this issue. Overall good, but quality control has been tough here. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy orange color, moderate head, good lace/retention, especially for the ABV. Aroma lives up to the beer’s name - smells like white chocolate. Aroma of white chocolate, vanilla, cocoa, light bourbon, wheat. Fairly full bodied, this doesn’t have the usual (overly) boozy palate that most of the bourbon barrel offerings have from The Bruery. Yeah, there’s some alcohol but this is much more pleasant. Finishes sweet, fairly straightforward flavors, not overly complex for all the stuff going on.

"I don’t even know where to start with this one, it had been a wish list brew for awhile that I finally had the chance to sample. Golden pour with a light white head but little retention. Beautiful aromas of bourbon, strong vanilla, and chocolate. Quite simply, this tastes like white chocolate soaked in bourbon. It’s massively complex yet quite simple, enigmatic really. I believe it’s the best brew I’ve had from the bruery and one of the best beers I’ve sampled this year. Truly phenomenal. "

ottle courtesy of yourefragile, thanks! Murky golden yellow color, small white head. Aroma of white bread and subtle chocolate. Taste is pretty much white chocolate soda. Odd

(retrieved from 08/2013 Midwest jpg backlog, CHI tasting - big bottle courtesy of CHI tasting crew, thx). Rarely had a beer so aptly named: pure molten white chocolate, Galak bar style, with honey-coated almond nut flakes. Amazing density of vanilla and almond/marzipan flavours, almost sickly sweet in the nose. Only a shame they were obtained purely by adding bucket loads of adjuncts, not by organic yeast or malt characteristics per se. In this respect straightforward and without any guilt, as only US barley wines can achieve, not much alcohol interfering, making for a great substitution for dessert, and a fun parody of a beer.

Bottle. The pour is a very murky light orange. The aroma is light bourbon, some vanilla, sweet notes. The taste is a good mixture of the notes mentioned. You can certainly taste the base wheat wine. A tad boozy that the bourbon burns in the end. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

What a contrast to Black Tuesday, but just as delicious. Poured a sip by a guy on St. Patrick’s Day 2014 at a local bottle shop! What a surprise!!!

750 ml bottle at Tyson’s Whole Foods. I saw this in a fridge behind the counter, and they poured me a sample! It had been opened several days prior. Pours a still yellowish orange, no head or lacing. Aroma is vanilla, oak, chocolate, malt, and booze. Flavor is smooth and intense: white chocolate is the dominating flavor, with vanilla sweetness. Alcohol is present but doesn’t get in the way of the flavor. Delicious. From notes 2/16/14.
