4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 fitwitchik (20) - - MAY 25, 2013
booziness aroma with vanilla caramel. HUGE head of tan foam over the amber beverage. Bourbon definitely dominates the flavor but not in a bad way. Didn’t find the coconut as the others who were drinking this bomber with me. Overall this brew is a sleeper of great flavor. It’s above average and happy to have 2 more bottles laying down in the cellar.

750ml bottle from Crossroads. Poured a hazy light nectar orange body with an average sized foamy white head that settles to a 1/4 inch and lasts the entire beer. Aroma is weird, fruity overall with some light bourbon notes and lots of Mischief notes coming out, honey topped toast along with Belgian yeast, tropical fruits, barrel, some white wine, candy, woody. The aroma has a lot going on but not loving it. Fuller syrupy body with average carbonation and a lingering coating syrupy feel. Flavor is abit better than the aroma, notes of light bourbon, tropical fruits, Belgian yeast, toast, wood, old hard vanilla candy, mango, sawdust. Interesting but wish they mixed this with something other then Mischief.

Tap at Chucks Hop Shop, Seattle. Wow. Could I have another, puh-lease?! Beautiful straw hazed golden pour. Light white head. Effervesant aroma of vanilla’d straw and sweet tender boozy malts. Flavor is sharp, but neat about it...a cutting woody oak sense mixed with a fruity barleywine blended with a load of vanilla funk tannins towards the finish. Brilliant libation right here!

courtesy of Thomas Schneider - cloudy orange beer with a little foam left; a fair woody aroma with notes of oranges, coriander and honey; huge malt backbone and fairly sweet; a late solid tart bitterness; quite a lot of residual sugars and solid astringent woody notes, lingering hints of oranges - too sweet to be great
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Bacterial (423) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - MAY 20, 2013
Hazy golden pour. Bright malty nose. Big bourbon, caramel and vanilla notes on this, really nice! A touch on the sweet side, but this helps balance the boozieness.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mcmd (262) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - MAY 17, 2013
pours golden orange/yellow. Aroma is Belgian yeast, oak, caramel, fruit. Taste is mostly Belgian strong ale, wish there was more bourbon, hint of vanilla, booze hidden well. Was hoping would be more bourbon wheatwine and less Belgian ale.

This one obviously doesn’t suffer from The Bruery’s infamous lack of carbonation. Clean sharp golden pour with two fingers of crackling eggshell white head. Very buttery/oaky nose, sharp tannic American oak shows with some spicy and peppery notes, kind of boozy. Raw bread dough shows a little bit. Spicy/peppery flavor. Combination of oak and alcohol here. Probably the Golden Ale as well. Medium full bodied with a spicy/boozy finish.

Bottle at Sixteen Tons Taphouse, part of WBBF. Pours a slightly cloudy. Aroma is slight woodiness, sweetness, pear and a bit of funk. Body is fairly lively, finish a surprisingly mix of bitter woodiness and warming, finishing sweet and tart, with the yeast making a bit of a return. Lovely but not overwhelming.

Really digging this somewhat different barley wine. Pours a golden yellow. Aroma is powerful fruit notes, raisins, bourbon, boozy, with a faint vanilla. Taste is strong bourbon flavor, fruity wheat note, vanilla, faint nutty/coconut, and raisins. Thick, chewy mouth feel with a slight bourbon burn. It’s also surprisingly creamy. I really like this barley wine--it’s different.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 TimsRatings (83) - - MAY 12, 2013
From bottle.
Poured a cloudy gold with ample head. Thick feel, especially for a non-stout/porter. Fruity aroma and taste (I could not notice coconut).
Not a favorite.
