Early summer, this barrel aged wheat wine is coming out very nicely (12% ABV) White Oak is a blended beer-- 50% wheatwine aged in Bourbon barrels (we call it "White Oak Sap"), and 50% Mischief (our Golden Strong Ale). Vivid caramel, coconut and vanilla flavors blanketed in a crisp yet robust wheat ale, White Oak is an exercise of balance.

Pours a bright rust orange with thick white head. A citrus and oaky aroma. A complex but excellent beer with a mix of flavors: wheat, yeast, caramel, citrus, malts, dark alcohol, and other fruits. A dry and alcohol aftertaste.

Bottle shared, thanks Jon. Lovely tartness, even more pastry-like, gentle fruity esters and notes of vanilla and marshmallow, bit of spice, smooth and dry on the finish. Excellent stuff, quite a unique and complex blend of flavors.

Poured into a taster showing lightly filtered slightly dry straw yellow with half a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows a mix of citric tart and vanilla notes. Strong intensity and a good balance. The palate is moderately carbonated with a light body. Slight residual sweetness, light vanilla throughout, no alcohol spiciness until the finish despite the high ABV. The flavors on the finish show clean bourbon oak and smoke.

Bottle shared. Thanks Jon! Lots of oak and buttery chardonnay notes in the nose with some light caramel, vanilla and coconut. ABV is hidden masterfully. Lots of oak on the palate with lots of complex flavors coming out as it warms, but still remains dangerously drinkable. Well-balanced on the palate with a nice buttery, dry finish. Excellent.

Big oaky Chardonnay nose. Deep French oak nose. Medium carbonation prickly, oaky, wheat, smooth body, Apricot with a fair amount of bourbon. Big bourbon warming finish. Pretty boozy. On the border of cloying but never there. Good stuff

A decent release, this barley wine might be showing signs of peaking. It certainly is not going to get any better with age so if you still happen to be sitting on a stash start drinking it soon before it fades even more.

Aroma / Appearance - A bronze sticky base supports a layer of dense foamy head that settles to a thin sheet. Lemons, apple sauce, white oak, and other flavors meld into a chewy texure that almost reminds me of an amped up saison.

Flavor / Palate - Strong and boozy, this bites from the first sip. A little too much at times, it does not hide the layers of oak, citrus, orange peels, and malt. Some subtlety might help take off the rough edges of an otherwise polished experience. I’m happy to have tried it but won’t be getting any more Bruery beers until the cellar is much thinner.

Bottle at Erzbierschof Zurich. A beautiful and complex beer! Intense and fruity, citric. Apricots, orange, bitter almonds. Very nice, but surely not everybody’s taste.
