Early summer, this barrel aged wheat wine is coming out very nicely (12% ABV) White Oak is a blended beer-- 50% wheatwine aged in Bourbon barrels (we call it "White Oak Sap"), and 50% Mischief (our Golden Strong Ale). Vivid caramel, coconut and vanilla flavors blanketed in a crisp yet robust wheat ale, White Oak is an exercise of balance.

i was really wondering just how the hell this beer was going to be classed, since "party in a bottle!" is not a category. simply put, this beer is amazing. the layers upon layers of aroma and flavor! vanilla from the oak and bourbon. boozy but not at ALL hot. tropical fruit up the wazoo (i’m assuming from the white oak) but i’d never had the combo of bourbony goodness, vanilla, caramel, malt, and fruit before. just a great beer! don’t know where the hell it came from, but i’d LOVE to find it again."

Bottle: Dense, fuzzy, burnt yellow body, completely opaque & topped with a much larger head than I expected; slightly off-white & quite foamy. Varied aroma of mellow boozy wood, honey coated plums, tart pineapple, hints of coconut & vanilla, a bit of toffee, blanketed caramel, figs, & maybe even a slight touch of white grape... Vinous? No... not really. But, sort of? Perplexing, but pretty good overall. Flavor is an amped up transpose of the aroma; a little more woody, a little more boozy, a little more fruity, & a little more sweet. Honey, soft wheat, bourbon soaked oak, dry coconut, clove, peach, musty pineapple with an offsetting tartness, sugarplums, white grape (definitely), & a touch of vanilla sweetness. More spicy oak in the finish, some yeasty esters, fruit sweetness, & a small lingering boozy warmth. Lots of stuff going on, here. A full bottle would be daunting, & it would certainly get a bit cloying; but smaller samples are fun to try.

Draft at Gingerman. Aroma is yeasty, banana, fruity esters, booze, wood. Tastes wheatty, spicy, and heavy oak. Slight acidity and funk on the finish. Very good.

Draft pour at the beer authority tasting event. Pours a light golden color with a soapy lemon aroma. 2013 pour. Spicy flavor with a lot of yeast and an aged feel to it. A lot of funk to it. Good beer overall. Unique. Tasty.

[5694-20130817] Bottle. Mild lemon yeast aroma. Slightly hazy, pale orange body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Yeasty toasted fruit flavour has a light doughy finish. Medium body. Good, though you wouldn’t tell by smelling it. (6/4/8/4/15) 3.7

Orange coloured brew. A big nice holding head. A bit hard to smell, but the taste is nice, with much going on. Wood, vanilla, coconut, white chocolate, citrus. Refreshing and good.

Bottle. Cloudy light orange pour with a big foamy head that fades to a ring. Aroma is packed with coconut and vanilla. Some wheat, lemon peel, and rum too. Tastes like coconut, bourbon, and vanilla with some caramel and wheat too. So much barrel influence, makes me wonder what the base beer tastes like. A touch of lemon juice in the finish. Odd beer. Decent but just a bit too much coconut and bourbon for me to fully enjoy.

Bottle, shared with my father-in-law. Hazy orange amber, thick off white head that retains nicely. Aroma is raw oak over caramel, vague fruits, green coconut. The palate is somewhat sticky, with fruity caramel dominating, some oaky vanilla and coconut water as background notes. Nice enough.

750 ml bottle shared with the Quebec City crew. Pours a cloudy orange with a short lived white head. Aroma is funky, lemon, tart. Flavor is fruity, orange, bubble gum, yeast, vanilla. Finish is lemon, citrus, tart, spicy. Medium to full body, soft mouthfeel, weak to average carbonation.
