4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 b79turner (167) - Alabama, USA - NOV 6, 20122012 bottle poured into a tulip glass. Golden yellow orange color with a huge soapy white head that sticks around. Nose is rich vanilla, coconut, caramel...this thing smells great! Taste is a little hot, the alcohol really burns on this one. A very interesting barley wine. I haven’t had a beer from The Bruery that I didn’t enjoy. Great beer!

courtesy of Thomas Schneider - cloudy orange beer with a little foam left; a fair woody aroma with notes of oranges, coriander and honey; huge malt backbone and fairly sweet; a late solid tart bitterness; quite a lot of residual sugars and solid astringent woody notes, lingering hints of oranges - too sweet to be great

Hazy golden pour. Bright malty nose. Big bourbon, caramel and vanilla notes on this, really nice! A touch on the sweet side, but this helps balance the boozieness.

pours golden orange/yellow. Aroma is Belgian yeast, oak, caramel, fruit. Taste is mostly Belgian strong ale, wish there was more bourbon, hint of vanilla, booze hidden well. Was hoping would be more bourbon wheatwine and less Belgian ale.

This one obviously doesn’t suffer from The Bruery’s infamous lack of carbonation. Clean sharp golden pour with two fingers of crackling eggshell white head. Very buttery/oaky nose, sharp tannic American oak shows with some spicy and peppery notes, kind of boozy. Raw bread dough shows a little bit. Spicy/peppery flavor. Combination of oak and alcohol here. Probably the Golden Ale as well. Medium full bodied with a spicy/boozy finish.

Bottle at Sixteen Tons Taphouse, part of WBBF. Pours a slightly cloudy. Aroma is slight woodiness, sweetness, pear and a bit of funk. Body is fairly lively, finish a surprisingly mix of bitter woodiness and warming, finishing sweet and tart, with the yeast making a bit of a return. Lovely but not overwhelming.

Really digging this somewhat different barley wine. Pours a golden yellow. Aroma is powerful fruit notes, raisins, bourbon, boozy, with a faint vanilla. Taste is strong bourbon flavor, fruity wheat note, vanilla, faint nutty/coconut, and raisins. Thick, chewy mouth feel with a slight bourbon burn. It’s also surprisingly creamy. I really like this barley wine--it’s different.

From bottle.
Poured a cloudy gold with ample head. Thick feel, especially for a non-stout/porter. Fruity aroma and taste (I could not notice coconut).
Not a favorite.

Bottle. Was expecting something more. This tastes of a powerful yeast and mild bourbon or wine bottles.

Draft @ Armsby Abbey. Pours a nice golden color with a trace of fizzy foam. The nose is has some boozy heat, spicy oak, cornpops, coconut and vanilla. On the palate its a lot of the same with some spicy wheat esters, grassy bitterness and a long boozy vanilla caramel finish.
