argo0 (6227), Washington DC, USA Dec 31, 2005 Cloudy copper body with beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, some roasty. Taste is moderately sweet, some roasty/coffee, light grwapefruit in finish. Medium body, some chewiness. Enjoyable, but it tastes nothing like a dubbel to me.
DYCSoccer17 (2036), Davis, California, USA Jan 28, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. 4 ounce sample. Aroma is sweet with lots of maple syrup aromas. Yeastly aromas are not really detectable, with the maple dominating. Not really dubbel-like. Hazy amber color with a very small, lifeless whitish head that dissipates very fast. Needs to have head retention if it is going to be a Dubbel. Candied bubblegum sweet flavors to start with more of the maple flavors to follow. Turns a bit roasty and bready in the middle with a more burnt finish. Very sweet, sticky, and cloying. I think this is a poor example of the style. Mangled. jjpm74 (3086), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Jan 8, 2006 Pours coppery with a thin off white head. Smells of pepper, winter spices and caramel. Taste is very nutty with some mellow spices and a nice rosey note or two. Some sweet cherry notes are also there. Very nice beer. boto (1222), Granby, Connecticut, USA Dec 20, 2005 Draught: This is yet another good beer. It pours an opaque mahogany color, with a small off white head. There is some lacing down the glass. The aroma is peppery, spicy and a bit of a caramel malt. The taste is a bit complex. It is fairly full bodied, and is peppery, very slightly sweet (from some caramel malt taste), hints of a roasted malt. Also a little yeasty, bready and nutty. Very tasty.
