Tasted 10/29/11. Pint from the Brewpub. Pours filtered with a deep amber, brown hue. Thick dense finger width of light khaki head. Aromas of cocoa dust and chocolate, with slight nutty and coffee nuances. Medium bodied with a really nice flavor. A ton of chocolate malts with a sweet fudge and caramel flavor. A bright and slightly bitter effervescence offsets the sweet malts and amps up the diverse palate. Doughy yet crisp with a mild hop profile. The palate is sticky, dry and tangy. Good roll. Mildly spicy and peppery. Mild coffee acidity and the slightest dried, dark fruit nuance. Solid brew!

Pours dark brown with a mahogany hue and a tan head. The aroma has lots of nuttiness, dark caramel and a brown sugar aspect that has a dryness to it. Medium body with light carbonation. The flavor starts with nuttiness, toasty smooth malt, spicy hops and some chocolate. The finish is smooth and rich without being sweet. Nicely done brown ale.

It poured a hazy brown color with a creamy light tan head. The aroma was of malt and overripe fruity notes. The flavor was caramel malt towards toffee with a light overripe fruit note. A decent brown ale.

Very nice brown with good malt. I felt this was less hoppy than many American Brown’s I’ve had and more English in taste, but overall a very nice offering from a promising start-up.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 phaleslu (4451) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 15, 2011
UPDATED: MAR 3, 2012 Draft at the brewery. 4.8% ABV. Pours a cloudy chestnut brown with an inch-thick beige head that leaves some sloppy lace in the glass. Aroma of huge toasted malts, pecans, toasted brown sugar, wheat, and earth. Flavor of toasted malts- more subtle than in the nose- along with earth, nuts, and cola. Medium-bodied, with a toasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Very much an American-style brown ale, and a damn good one at that. This really hit the spot.
