2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tap @ The Civil Life. Pours a hazy dark orange appearance with a disappearing cream colored head. Very nutty, toasty malty, light banana, somewhat herbal aroma. Toasty malty, light banana, quite nutty, slightly burnt, dry flavor. I can drink it but it’s completely off style and nothing like what you can get in Germany.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Light reddish brown thin head. Almost tastes like an extract brew. Drinkable. Malty, but not sweet. Light body. Another good session beer from civil life.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at The Civil Life. Pours a medium brown color with white head. Malty, caramel, wheat flavors. Doesn’t quite match the dunkelweizen style.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted on tap at brewpub in a nonic pint glass. It poured a deep reddish brown color with thick, long-lasting off-white foam and lace. Bready, toasty, tart, perfumey noble-ish hops, faint apricot and black pepper. Somehow full-bodied, with nice chewy husky-whole-grain-bread mouthfeel and then a crisp, dry finish. Less banana and clove than other examples of style, but nonetheless well-balanced, multi-layered, and eminently drinkable. Highly recommended.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours cloudy mahogany with a beige head. The aroma has walnuts, banana, cloves, rich dark wheat and light leather. It has a medium body that’s a bit rough and has some soft carbonation. The flavor starts off quite dry with bananas, walnuts, spice and a papery aspect. The finish dries out a bit. This is much drier and more refreshing than most dunkelwiezens I’ve had. Well done.
