COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
I’m pretty convinced that if the whole musician thing hadn’t worked for Johnny Cash he would have made some pretty good beer. Specifically he would have made a nice Robust Porter that weighed in about 6%, hopped with First Gold, and it certainly would have been Black. Well, since as far as I can tell he didn’t actually get around to brewing we jumped in and did it. Our Porter uses a Classic London Yeast strain and plays guitar pretty well. Next time you’re looking for a comfy pint just say "Hey! Porter!"

On tap at Bier Station. Pours a black color with white head. Roasty, burnt, coffee aromas. Sweet coffee, roasty flavors. Another really solid beer from Civil Life.

On tap at Global Brew. Pours an opaque black with a thin resilient light tan head. Aroma is roasted coffee beans. Taste is sweet dark malt, with a little mocha and coffee. Smooth and nice.

This was a bit too roasty for a porter. Had this at their tap room in saint Louis Fall 2012. Everything I tasted was good to great.

On tap at the source... Pours a deeper cola pour with deeper auburn undertones and topped with a thin wispy film of off-white head... Deep roast, light smoke and cocoa nose.. More of the same in the flavor with a general sweetness lingering throughout and into the finish. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. Better than the rye for sure but completely different styles obviously. Cool place with lots of outdoor seating. Probably should add a place review, huh?!

32 oz growler shared by JohnF. The pour is a hazed brown black, with a smallish light tan head. The aroma is ashy mineral, along with a lightly charred roasted malt. Perhaps a hint of coffee in the back as it warms as well. The taste is dry flinty mineral, along with the charred roast coffee malt. Nice pine hop finish to the back. The palate is med to light bodied, with the chalky bone dry mineral finish. Nice one, I really like my Porters super dry. Thanks for bringing these growlers back and sharing John.

Tasted on tap at brewpub in a nonic half-pint glass. It poured a nice, nearly opaque, dark brown color, reddish at the edges, with lasting beige foam and lace. 100% true-to-style aromas and flavors: malty, bready, caramelly, toasty, a little smoky and roasty, with tangy English citrusy/earthy hops balance and faintly fruity ale yeast esters. Medium body, well-rounded mouthfeel, lingering tart and toasty finish. Well done.

Black with thin tan head...great lacing. Coffee, roast, mild chocolate, and espresso aroma. Full bodied, flavor like aroma, and mild syrupy body notes. Nicely balanced, medium roast-dry finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It poured a dark brown color with a medium khaki head. The aroma was of dark fruit, coffee, chocolate and toffee. The taste was of cherry, chocolate, coffee, burnt toast, another dark fruit (dates) note, and a grassy dry finish. Very good.

On tap at Ciceros (St. Louis, MO). Pour is deep, opaque brown with a slight red tint and brown head. Great lacing. Roasty aroma; cocoa, nutty, coffee, earthy, light grass, and bread. Taste is roasty upfront, with notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and toasted malt, very earthy through the middle ending with a roasted bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel with high carbonation. Pretty tasty stuff.
