COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Biere de Garde was inspired by the farmhouse beers brewed in Northern France and brewery friend Steve Jones, proprietor and cheesemonger at Cheese Bar. Steve was lamenting the dearth of food-friendly Biere de Gardes and we took that as a cue to develop a beer that would fill the gap. Traditionally, Biere de Garde was brewed in Winter and early Spring while the climate was cooler, then garded (lagered) during the cool months, and reserved for consumption during the summer. This beer offers a soft and clean, malt forward flavor with a reserved hop profile.

On draught at Bailey’s Taproom. Orchard fruit aroma. Notes of apple, citrus, and a light hoppiness. Has a sweet finish.

750, capped. Pours a murky bright medium orange-amber with a dense and creamy head that sticks around forever, after dissipating a fair bit. Mild sweet nose; sweetened cereal over a bit of caramel over a bit of floral note. Creamy medium body with moderate carb. Sweetened cereal, caramel, and floral notes on the mid palate. Mild sweet finish. Quite nice.

Pine Box, Seattle. Creamy head on dense malty orange. Sweet yeast and warm malt. A bit cloying sweet. Ok drinker but pretty sweet overall.

Draft - Light sweet carame and a touch of ketchup. Clear cold with a decent beige head. Tastes much like the nose.

@ Commons, Porland 16-3-11: En ganska enkel red ale med toner av malt. Inte för söt men heller lite intetsägande.

On tap at the Brewpub. A bit hazy amber with a white head. Aroma and taste of yeast, "tutti-frutti", some fruit and light grass. Nothing special.

On tap at The Commons. Pours a dark orange with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is orange peel, yeast, spice. Medium mouth, strong orange zest, light spice, dry finish, very good.

A very refreshing beautiful beer. Pours a bright cloudy orange with a white head. Smells very floral, with rose and some pine nuts. Taste is carbonated, with lemon and apple and more rose. Had on tap at the brewery.

Tap at the brewery. Sweet, strawberry, dry, fruity, pretty nice. Grainy. Belgian yeastiness.

Bottle: Poured a light amber color ale with a medium size foamy head with some good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt with light bready notes is OK. Taste is also dominated by bready notes with some dry caramel malt notes and a grainy finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. OK for style but falls a bit short on complexity and I don’t think I would been seeking this on a regular basis.

Bottle. It’s rare I hit this style since I’m not a huge malt-forward drinker, so take this (like anything I say ever) with a fat grain of salt. No shade though! This is good. Pours a hazy orange. Deep, rich malt aroma. Grains and nuts and cereal, plus caramel and just a touch of hops (don’t know the date but this isn’t new... These haven’t been on the shelves for months). Drinks balanced, lively and clean. This is clearly well-made and made me more interested in malty beers. Unexpected complexity. Surprised how much I enjoy this but shouldn’t be granted the pedigree, Flemish Kiss was a fave this summer (tho it’s gone baby gone here).
