04.21.2013 750ml bottle Pours a dark purple with a quickly dying thick lace. Spicy lavender nose. Front of the palette is blasted by tea spices finished

Bottle. Brown pour with an off white head. Not sure what the hell I’m smelling here. Wacky cola and yeast notes. Wow, this is a real misfire. Below average body and mouthfeel.

Bottle from BCS. Pours a clear dark brown with a big soapy beige head. Strong aromas of chamomile and lavender with nutmeg and cinnamon on the nose as well. Cola-like mouthfeel with average carbonation. A little heavy for a saison, but still pretty nice. The floral flavors really standout. Would like more carbonation and more funky yeast...urban farmhouse and flemish kiss are way better imho.

On tap at fat head Portland pub. Pours out a crisp brown topped with a sand head. Nose is floral and lots of perfume. Taste is more of the perfume and a nice malt bill.

On tap at Tin Bucket - Pours brown with a tan head. The aroma has lots of bright herbal spices, very leafy and fresh with some saison style earthiness. It has a medium crisp body with mild carbonation. The flavor starts with a very weird mix of spices that seem all over the place to me. The finish seems to be a bit of a different mix of spices, but still seems scattered to me. It is dry and somewhat off-putting to me. I love The Commons a lot, but this one just isn’t for me.

Bottle - Big Hibiscus and Lavender notes off the bat. Floral and herbal. Deep dark and black with a foamy rich beige head. Malty, grassy, sweet herbal notes. Odd to be sure, the floral notes with the malts are strange.

On tap at Tin Bucket. I haven’t had this since last year, when it was...not good. A: Pure black, thin white head. N: Eucalyptus, lemon and grapefruit rind, medicine, some leather, wine grape, lavender, chamomile, tobacco, licorice, and star anise. T: Sweet, sour, very lightly bitter. M: Light body, crisp biting carbonation. O: Much better than last year; it’s closest comparison (and they’re still quite different) is the 2014 batch of Upright’s Special Herbs. This one is either up your alley or bound to weird you out, though.
