Draft at brewery, Portland. Pours a medium brown, with a decent amount of white head. Aroma very interesting, a resinous kind of effect, but maybe some funk as well. Body is small but bright, a very herbal bitterness lingers without a heaviness. Grassy?

Copper, clear, off-white head. Aroma: nutty, bready malt, some earthy spice, herbal hops. Flavor: soft, bready malt, nutty notes, a damp cave earthy character, light fruit.

750 m bottle. Pours a mostly clear copper color with a large white head. A sweet nose of pilsner malt and floral hops. Some soft rose and floral perfumy hops, light sweet malt. Pretty good. Some light earthy caramel.

750mL thanks to brainlair. Pours deep brown with yeast floaties. Thick, creamy nitro stout looking foam. Good lacing. Damn, was hoping this was blonde. Nose is apple esters, fruity cherry juice, richer apple pie. Taste is dusty, dull, bland, tea tannic body with no juiciness or sugar to help with the tannic, dry body. No dry hopping character and not what I’d call belgian. As it warms the raw farmyard dark grain comes through and makes this somewhat enjoyable. Similar to Upright Six.

Tap @ Widmer... Poured deep, dark brown with a thin head. Nose had yeast spices and fruits. Tasted of hops and grains with a noticeable fruity ester yeast character. Some sweetness too. This hit all the buttons as far as hop, malt, and yeast characters.

Tap at the Commons, PDX, 26/05/13. Opaque dark chestnut brown with a thin white head that dissipates edgeward. Nose carries herbal notes, toffee, light sugars, soured pineapple, touch of hops. Taste comprises bitter orange, tarte apricot, dark malts, sugars, bready. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dryish finish. Decent fruity Belgian offering with a dose of hoppage.
