Flavor is perfumy grapefruit hops with bready notes in the finish. Crispy mouthfeel. Too malty for my taste. jkwalking05 (1501), Arlington, Texas, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 1, 2009 Dark reddish orange appearance. Has some red smell but not a fat IPA aroma. Some light hop profile: at least 2 hop styles sensed. Spicy and dry taste on this. Very dry hop flavor. Finish left a tingle unlike any other with a dry bitter flavor. travita (1970), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 16, 2007 Updated: Oct 17, 2007Rating from memory, so beware. The restaurant was out of the regular IPA in May, but I returned to find it renamed the Amarillo IPA. Pours a dirty orangy brown with a thick beige head. Looks kinda like their dunkelweizen. Aroma is hoppy, but very dirty and earth. Some pine and lemony citrus, but plenty of wood dirt. Tastes remarkable dry and earthy as well, while the hops tingle with bitterness upfront. Light pine, light citrus, just enough to show those qualities are still there. Finishes with a strong but pleasant burnt wood finish on the back of the tongue, but it doesn’t kill your throat the way something Old Crustacean would. Substantially hoppy, dirty, and more like a Rogue lockerstock type of beer than a Texas IPA. Nice!
I thought the above paragraph was for the regular IPA, but upon returning to the restaurant, I realized I was wrong. I liked it before and it has a lot of the same earthy malt flavors and dark copper colors, but wow was it citrusy. Tons of orange on the aroma, like the most pungent fresh orange juice you ever had, splashed withg grapefruit for bitterness. MMmm! Plenty of citrus in the flavor too, but it’s more of a team player than the main feature. Flavorful and bitter finish, and the lingering bitterness is only moderate. Quickly becoming a favorite IPA of mine. If you like IPAs and you’re in Texas, you have to try this.
