| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 22, 2008 Pours smooth, black and oily. A thin tan head emerges as the strong aroma fills the air. The nose is pungent with milk chocolate, dark fruits, and coffee. The taste is complex, constantly evolving as the beer warms. Raisins and licorice become more apparent as the beer nears room temperature. Hardly a porter, it should be called an imperial stout. An excellent beer from a company who knows how to brew dark beers. A+ josuemucho (86), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 22, 2008 Pours a motoroil colour. Chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt in the nose. Taste matched the aroma with a touch of dark fruit and possibly licorice as it warmed. Very solid. I have wanting to try this for two years and it did not disappoint. pintocb (510), Darsville, Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Dec 21, 2008 I guess Im just against the grain. I can appreciate a roasted, dark beer, but I dont think it is heaven on earth. How is this not an impy stout? Midnight black. Tons of coffee and chocolate in the nose. Flavor matches the nose. Very oily. Good, burnt finish. One of the smoothest beers Ive had in the dark beer category. Sigh, five more to sip through. T2Tool (352), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 12, 2008 Poured from a 12-oz bottle. Best enjoy by date of 10/09. Appearance was black with a thin brown head. Smell was all over the place - either that or I was imaging things. Thought I detected chocolate, toffee, burnt grain, raisins, caramel and molasses. A sweet carbonated taste of roasted malts, cofee, dark fruit with a bit of an alcohol finish. tarheels86 (745), Washington DC, USA

Aromas of molasses, dark chocolate, salt water, and loads of chocolate malt. Taste is lots of coffee, unsweetened chocolate, roasted malt, espresso. Ends with a sour, tart, acidic taste. Thick bodied. Oily mouthfeel. Awesome. CheersMate1 (793), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 30, 2008 This thing has the appearance of a good imperial stout. I was very impressed. Opaque, and a nice thin chocolate colored head sitting on top. Whoa, this made my Saturday night, forget the ladies, right guys!? This beer is too one sided for me. It is all about the roast. I don’t think the description is misleading. I am actually glad that I didn’t pay for a 6-pack and found this in a mix-a-six section of Green’s. The beer has a weak aroma of roast. It also has some sweet aroma, but not much. I am not impressed because this thing is not that pungent to me. I am not sick, so it is not my nostrils. I can say this is a nice creamy beer. The alcohol really comes out with the roast which is a nice combo. I like this roast taste. I just think it is too one sided. There is some slight coffee, and chocolate taste, but the damn roast is taking over my life at this moment. The sweet flavor really comes out at first, but the other flavors quickly kick in. Overall, I think the beer is nice, but just focuses too heavily on the roast. As for a "sipping beer" I don’t know I need something a little more harsh to stop. I would say that for a Baltic Porter, and I have only had 2, this was the better one. Brewbie (220), New York, USA
