Commercial Description:
The Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter is deep, rich and velvety soft. A full blooded roasty character is balanced by complex alcohol notes. Strong (9% alcohol by volume) yet unfailingly subtle, this special brew warrants sipping and savoring.

Poured a dark mahogany brown / black color with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, vanilla, cocoa, floral hoppiness, and smoked malts. Taste of dry, bitter roast, vanilla, nuts, smoke, cocoa, and alcohol. The rating is an average of both years, the 07 was hoppier though thinner, while the 06 really came together nicely, was creamier, and not overly hoppy. Thanks to Tom and Steve for letting me try these!

This is the 06 version just taken out of the cellar. Balck in color with an attractive chocolate colored head that doesn’t hang around for last call. Roasted and boozy in the aroma but in the best of ways. Rich roasted malt flavor complemented by some dark fruits and molasses. What sets this beer apart from others is the rich coffee like finish and the soft velvet like mouthfeel. This one is worth seeking out.

Pours a murky dark brown colour with a small tan head. Nose is earthy, roasted malts mild coffee and copper. Initial taste pours over the palate with a creamy coffee. Smokiness, roasted malts & mollasses make up the background character. Cocoa is also present in the mid palate. Finishing with dark chocolate and mild coffee. Chalky dry finish that leaves your mouth nearly complete parched. Alcohol is well masked. Medium to full body. Palate duration gets cut short with heaping stop from the chalkiness. Good head retention and some lacing of the glass.
