| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 7, 2007 Allow me to explain...this rating is based on my personal preference. Thanks, Secret Santa for this top rated beer. Aroma was big...slight coffee, dark licorice and alcohol. Pour was a flat black with a tan head that popped up and left. Taste was flat, hot and thick. Strong licorice with hints of chocolate and vanilla. Burnt malt on the tongue and in the aftertaste. The big problem for me is this black licorice taste. Very strong alcohol burn. Once I got the point (as the label says) that it should be sipped slowly, I was convinced not to pour it out. I’m not knocking the beer as I’m sure if you like these big dark ones, you can’t get better. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 5, 2007 Bottle shared with, and thanks to Eric. Pours a dark brown with a decent light brown head. The aroma is nutty, burnt malt and smoke. The taste is amazing: dark fruits, maybe raisin, dark cherry, a tartness, some really deep burnt malts, maybe some soy sauce related flavors. Just amazing. Little to no hint of alcohol, a really smooth but substantial beer. I could drink this all day. This is what beer should be: unique, well made, and taking a stand. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 3, 2007 Lasting tan head stays 1cm high over the close to opaque black body. Obviously very well extracted roastiness complements the strong fruitiness, mostly raisins, blackberries and plums. Quite drinkable. Its chocolate hints joyously evade any acidic pretence. Just a generous, warming imperial porter that works well and supplies gentle vinous undertones as well as a mild smokiness. Full-bodied, medium carbonation. Excellent balance all-around. Lovely beer. jsh12bama (337), Alabama, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 2, 2007 Smoky aroma. Nice motor oil black pour. Smoky flavor with taste of dark fruits. Also roasted malt flavor present. Mild alcohol burn in the finish. As it warms the alcohol presence is felt. Was expecting to be let down by all the hype but it definitely lived up the expectations. emerica56 (581), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA

The aroma was a little nulled but i could pick up some roasted malt and some mild bery fruits. The taste is very smokey with hints of fruits in the finish as well as some roasted malt. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 29, 2007 Kudos to elmatador00 for this one. Pours out black with a ruby-hued tan head that fades completely to a ring and leaves no lacing. Nice aroma of roasted malt, candi sugar, berries, sweet soy sauce, licorice, and brandy. Wonderfully roasty and smokey flavour with dark fruits, sweet soy and an alcoholic finish with some bitter hops balancing the sweet, complex malts. Soft, tingly carbonation and full body with a long and drying palate duration. elektronikfagtekniker (892), kbh, Denmark
