Deep burgundy brown body with a velvety tan head. Amazing aroma of rich melted caramel, fruit-laced dark chocolate, and fresh coffee. Nice rum raisin character in the flavor. Meaty fruit quality develops as it warms. Pleasant velvety texture, but not overblown. The cynic in me was surprised how good this really is.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Moejuck: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt is dominant and enjoyable. Taste is dominated by dry coffee notes as well as some light bitter roasted malt. I was expecting more chocolate notes then I could detect and the beer was a bit more dry then expected. Body was quite full with some medium carbonation and no alcohol was discernable. Overall, while this was a very good beer I thought it was slightly too dry for the style and I can’t figure out why this rated so high but again I am probably not the biggest fan of the style to begin with. skibumphishead (180), USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 15, 2007 12oz bottle from Turdferguson. Thank you Slam. This is from my first of hopefully many beer trades. The pour is midnight black with almost no head into my Narragansett pint glass. The aroma is sweet chocolate, raspberries, soy sauce, and coffee. The first sip is thick and tastes like chocolate covered strawberries. Now I am halfway through this beer and I can barely detect the 9% abv and the chocolate /coffee flavors are still going strong. The finish is more soy and fruit. I think that the soy flavor could come from the alcohol and hops that are mostly covered by the super sweet flavors. Wow. This beer was enormously complex and way too easy to drink. These 12 ounces disappeared too fast. Now I can’t wait for the imperial stout that I have lined up from this dank NC brewery. scraff (1942), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 12, 2007 Black , tan creamy head. Soft rich nose of sour cherry, milk chocolate, and mild roasted coffee that rides a nice vinous wave. Tangy sour cherry and winey flavors blend well and balances with dark malty, roasted coffee, and light chocolate tones from start to finish. Medium bodied and slick, moderate carbonation, dry, light tangy, bittersweet finish. Very well made. Thanks for the bottle Springslicker... elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2007 From a 12 oz. bottle with a notched freshness date along the right side label, 07/07, sampled slightly chilled in a pint glass.
Poured a dark blackish brown with a nice sized foamy, bubbly, creamy light brown head, good retention, settled into a thin creamy lacing, minimal amount of laced sticking.
Aromas of dark brown malts, chocolate, caramel toffee, sweet cream, lightly dark fruity, nutty and tiny whiffs of estery alcohol.
Good moderate carbonation and a malty crisp, dryish, softly slick, airy, creamy smooth medium bodied mouthfeel.
A good roasted, smooth malty taste, dry milk chocolate, caramel toffee butteriness, the purple plum fruitiness has a light acidity, the alcohol is barely noticeable and provides a low warmth in the palate, the hops are pretty mild and only partially emerge at the end, and a dryish, sweet milk chocolate, fruity finish.
This has a very easy drinkability, a good Baltic Porter, by not a great one, but I still wish this was available to me on a regular basis.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 5, 2007 Bottle for #2100: Pitch black, large foamy brownish head, thin rings of lacing.   Sweet soy and cocoa nose, soft hop presense, a little bit
of graham cracker and apple skin.   Smells pretty damn good!   Sweet roasted malt, quite sweet but not cloying.   Soft fig/date,
soy, apple skin, all seem to dominate until the finish where more of the roasted malts come out.   Moderate to full body, mouthfeel
seems fairly slick but not as thick as I would have thought.   Clean finish, sweet, lingering roasted/burnt malts, very slight lactose
like hint.   The 9% ABV is very well hidden.   Pretty damn good stuff!   Thanks Jeff for the bottle!
