3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 zug4abby (287) - San Diego, California, USA - OCT 1, 2009Bottle from Ohiodad I got in November 2006 in a trade, I’m excited to see how the beer has aged. Pours an opaque dark brown color with a very minimal dark tan head. Aroma is raisin/bourbon dominated with a slight note of toasted malt in the background. Slight smokiness if the nose as well. Flavor is extremely sweet, lots of raisin- like a barleywine. Seems past it’s prime in the flavor. Very slick on the palate, another sign of age/infection (I think it’s age more than anything). I liked this beer the first time I had it, but it’s not very representative of a baltic porter at this point in the aging process. And as a side note, I stored the beer in my cellar (which is kept at 60F).

One of the best porters I’ve had so far. Great chocolate, a little soy, roasty but not smokey, and very enjoyable.

Draft at Taphouse/Queensway. Dark and murky, as you’d expect from a Baltic. Rich! Fun anise and cream flavors, this is FAR too drink for a 9% ABV beer. (#4966, 3/17/2013)
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 bird_machine (50) - San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA - MAR 20, 2013
12 oz bottle poured into a Hair of the Dog tulip. Deep aromas of dark fruits, coconut and a hint of roasted malts. I pick up more ripe figs than anything else. Pours a nice and dark with a nice tan head with very little retention. Carbonation dies quickly. Taste is sweet with some soy and all those dark fruits. Lingering sugars, and fruit on the tongue, subtle roasted malts, medium carbonation, a little creamy. Don’t pick up much hop bitterness. Overall I’m not a fan of the dark fruits... brings back nightmares of Dark Lord. As it warmed up it got a little worse in my opinion.
