doppelmeup (48), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Apr 30, 2008 This is an awesome looking brew poured into a tulip glass.
Dark, dark, dark. No light whatsoever escapes. A rich, cocoa colored head slowly builds as I pour this. I end up with about a half inch thick of creamy, milkshake like foam, which slowly settles and leaves a ring around the edges. As I swirl the beer, tiny bits of foam stick to the glass, and you can see the legs slowly slip down the side of the glass. Very impressive!!
Aroma is fantastic. Espresso, toffee, chocolate milk, slightly alcoholic, a bit of fruitiness, almost like a dark chocolate covered cherry cordial.
The taste doesn’t disappoint. Milk chocolate, cappucino, slightly bitter from alcohol and coffee flavors.
Rich, smooth, velvety mouthfeel, with a definite alcohol burn. Lingering bitter aftertaste leaving you with a nice warmth all the way down.
Overall this beer completely lived up to my high expectations. A bit rich for more than one at a time, but slow down and savor this one. Delicious. Don’t pass it by if you see it on the shelves
Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours a black beer with a brown head. Sweet chocolate roasty smoked malt. Nice etoh soft mouthfeel. Very good. timsilvia32 (91), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 5, 2008 Black with a good tan head. Nice roasty & earthy flavors. Slight alcohol at the finish, but not too much. Not sure if I like it more than their regular porter, but it’s close. Can’t drink quite as many of them as the standard. oakbluff (187), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jul 3, 2008 Sample via piscator- been wanting to try this for awhile- thanks Kris! Pours very dark, little head or lacing. Nose- powerful nose with many flavours hitting the nose- spice and plums , smoke and roast. Taste- full bodied and vinous. Little bit boozy in a good way. Black licorce, oak and roasty malts. Smooth drinkiing that coats the mouth on the way down. nice stuff BrewCzar (23), St Louis, Missouri, USA Jul 1, 2008 Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Almost black with a tall dark brown head. Aormas of smoke chocolate. Taste of cholate and roasted malts that begins somewhat sweet but turns to an acid/sour taste. Strong alcohol burn. Somewhat disapointing, but willing to give it a second chance at a later time. Beerman6686 (536), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 29, 2008 Poured a very dark brown almost black color. Aroma was mainly of roasted malts and coffee. Flavor was very smooth chocolate/malt flavor with a linger alcohol tinge. Good. But not as great as expectations.
