dankman38 (217), Somewhere in, Ohio, USA Nov 17, 2007 Pours deep brown/black with a smallish head, the nose is heavily scented with coffee and soy sauce, lots of smoke in the flavor with some chocolate and coffee malt, long roasty finsh. Good beer, very flavorful.
robinvboyer (1052), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Sep 29, 2008 huge black pour, big billowy mocha head. Aroma is big on chocolate, coffee sweet roasted malt, alcohol, and some licorice. Flavour is big on the chocolate also, with a tinge of alcohol, the finish is bitter and chocolatey, wth some great licorice notes that linger in the end. very very nice, but i would consider this more of an impy stout than a porter, but holy hell this is delicious. glkaiser (999), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 24, 2008 Black with medium head. Nice roasted malt with lots of dark fruit. Finish is quite sour and a bit metallic to boot. I’d usually write this off as a bad bottle, but this is the second time I’ve tried this beer and have had similar experiences. It’s almost like the dark fruit went a bit too sour.... DA (2473), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Sep 23, 2008 Thanks to Jeff for this one. Pours very dark brown with a thin khaki head. Sweet malt nose, dark fruits, cherry, chocolate. Heavy and sweet on the palate, faint burnt chocolate character, but not overly roasty, just kinda sits in the background. Flavor picks up a chocolate dipped cherry sweetness with a lingering bitter finish. Small hints of sweet tobacco show as you breath out. Bold and very complex, but still very drinkable. GAManiac (344), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 12, 2008 On tap. Pours almost completely opaque black with a small tan head that shows good retention and a little lacing.
Dominant smells are roasted chocolate malts with a bit of burnt coffee and some dark fruits. Some licorice and vanilla sweet in the background as well.
The taste is a drier, hoppier version of the smell. There is still the big roasted malt character up front with some sweetness of vanilla and dark fruits. But it’s the finish that really stands out with the hops leaving a dry espresso bitterness into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth with a bit drier character than most baltic porters I have tasted. Not a lot of carbonation in this one.
This is my favorite Duck-Rabbit brew and is a great Baltic porter all the way around. Highly recommended! daknole (852), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 27, 2008 Damn this is one fine beer...wow one of the best porters I have ever, ever had. Black ass pour wtih a quick fading brown head. Aromas of molasses, soy, chocolate, coffee, syrup, candy sugar and deep malts hit the tongue. Flavor is sweet, thick, rich, syrupy...full of molasses, chocolate, and dark sweet dried fruit. Simply a world class porter and I need more ASAP!
