vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA Dec 22, 2007 Updated: Jan 20, 2008 Pours black. That’s about all there is to say about the color, this stuff is dark. There’s a beige head that fades pretty rapidly leaving just a thin ring. The initial aroma of dark, bittersweet chocolate is noticeable as soon as I opened the bottle. The mouth feel is thick and quite smooth. There’s a moderate about of carbonation to tingle the tongue as well. Initially the flavor is that of dark chocolate. The alcohol provides a warming sensation on the way down. The alcohol is well played in this one. It is not overbearing nor unpleasant. As the beer warms, roasted coffee flavors begin to emerge, along with some dark fruit. There are some faint bitter hops detected in the aftertaste, along with roasted coffee.
CheersMate1 (318), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 30, 2008 This thing has the appearance of a good imperial stout. I was very impressed. Opaque, and a nice thin chocolate colored head sitting on top. Whoa, this made my Saturday night, forget the ladies, right guys!? This beer is too one sided for me. It is all about the roast. I don’t think the description is misleading. I am actually glad that I didn’t pay for a 6-pack and found this in a mix-a-six section of Green’s. The beer has a weak aroma of roast. It also has some sweet aroma, but not much. I am not impressed because this thing is not that pungent to me. I am not sick, so it is not my nostrils. I can say this is a nice creamy beer. The alcohol really comes out with the roast which is a nice combo. I like this roast taste. I just think it is too one sided. There is some slight coffee, and chocolate taste, but the damn roast is taking over my life at this moment. The sweet flavor really comes out at first, but the other flavors quickly kick in. Overall, I think the beer is nice, but just focuses too heavily on the roast. As for a "sipping beer" I don’t know I need something a little more harsh to stop. I would say that for a Baltic Porter, and I have only had 2, this was the better one.
