Bottle. Off-white fizzy average head (mostly dissapated). Cola like coloring but with slightly more red. Good lacing. Aroma of vanilla, cloves. dark fruit, and honey-sweeter than expected. Flavor adds to the aromas mentioned with a slight mediciny(sp?), cough syrup flavor. This flavor subsides some as i con tinue to consume. Light to medium bodied. Watery textured. Medium duration on finish. Hmm? This is not bad but not exactly good. After trying the imperial stout, I expected more from this barley wine.

Thanks! pours crystal clear light copper with a nice big off whited head. good lacing. aroma dominated by strong piney hops with hints of wood and toffee. flavor sweet and slightly tart cherry bitter caramel and spicy hints. medium dry sweet/tart cherry black pepper finish. warm alcohol throughout. full thick body. nice on a snowy night like tonight.

Bottled, from Lighthouse Beer/Wine in Surf City. Barley transparent orange coloring, very little head. Aroma of fruits - raisins, maybe? Could be apricots. The flavor is great with lots of fruit and a very subtle hop tinge. The mouthfeel is a bit much for me - barleywines like Old Foghorn and Bigfoot don’t quite have the heavy feeling that this one does. Extra points for an N.C. brewery putting out a barleywine - this is by no means bad. I’ll have it again.

ricke (476) - Malme, SWEDEN - JAN 16, 2010
Bottle. Dark amber color with a small quickly disappearing head that leaves some lacings. The aroma is malty with notes of sweet caramel, toffee and spicy hops. The flavor is heavy and sweet with predominantly malty notes. Additional notes of sugary fruits and spicy hops. The finish has some bitterness to it and notes of alcohol and malts. Full-bodied and dense, thick texture. Quite tasty, but it lacks some balance and complexity.

12 ozz bottle. Pours a dark amber with a creamish beige head. Aroma of hops and a lot of them. Sweet and bitter. Compared to a big foot this is not very well balanced

Pour is a crystal clear mahogany color, with a small off white head, and lively carbonation. Nose is of caramel and maybe some dark fruits, very subtle. Taste is much more complex with some sweet notes in the start, with definite caramel notes along with some fruit, and a nice hop character in the back end. Good lacing, relatively speaking a light barleywine with good carbonation.

gpekar (451) - Maryland, USA - FEB 12, 2011
Poured a milky orange color, similar to the color of a brandy. There was a creamy tan head about 1 inch and it dropped quickly to just a film. There was a bit of sticky lacing as the head reduced. There was a good caramel malt aroma and some alcohol scent that came through along with some toffee. The texture was thick and creamy with a big alcohol taste up front followed by a good bit of alcohol warmth soon after. There was a good bit of caramel malt flavor that developed then to soften the alcohol flavor. There was a hops bitterness with the flavor or bitter orange that went well with the caramel. The hops remained into the finish with a nice alcohol warmth that fades away slowly along with the hops. It was very good on a cold February night.

bottle .. Hazy deep amber pour , thin off white head , some lacing . Aroma of sweet caramel malt and floral hops . Malt sweetness is balanced by a bracing hop bitterness . Notes of fruit and some mild alcohol . Full bodied ,sticky and sweet . Dry bitter finish. Will be better with age .

Pours a nice dark amber. Aroma mostly of molasses and hops. Taste is nice with more molasses and hops and lightly roasted malt. Fairly sweet on the taste. Pretty good overall, but could be more complex and malty.
