4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAR 4, 2008 06/07 bottle. Wow! what a solid barley wine from what Iím beginning to see as North Carolinaís premier brew. They just donít stop!! The brew is very sweet & malty, itís huge... but not at all w/ out itís complex hop characteristics (citrus and herbal). The flavors change throu out the whole beer dramatically. Itís smooth too. This is hands-down one of the best bwís Iíve EVER had and also one of the best beers in a LONG time. $12ish a 6 pack.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cashew and walnut nose, fairly rich, all within a caramel base, some lacing. Clear dark copper, thick yellow head. Overripe orange, oak, cashews, lemon zest. Complexities really come to life upon warming. Medium body, quite hot. Enjoyable, but Iím not sure I like the hop choice in this milieu.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
THOUGHTS: A little different than most barley wines. Almost like a cross between an IPA and a barley wine with a heavy dose of citrusy wheat beer. Hid alcohol in an unprecedented way, to me. I canít say this was a great barley wine based on what it should taste like, but it was an incredible beer that is truly different and enjoyable if I pretend styles donít exist. Surprisingly easy to drink since the citrus is almost more acidic than bitter.
TECHNICAL: Tried 2/22/2013. Bottle. Poured a murky, medium to dark, brownish orange with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma contained light to moderate caramel; a little burnt toast; moderate grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime hops (orange was the dominant one); slight brown sugar, hints of alcohol; ever so slight sulfur; and all sorts of citrus. The initial flavor was mod sweet and bitter, and lightly acidic; while the finish was heavily sweet; moderately bitter and lightly sour with a long duration. There was caramel malt, marmalade, very citrusy hops, orange grapefruit, lemon and lime, orange juice, but sour orange was the dominant flavor. The medium to full body was a little oily with soft yet tingly carbonation and an ever so slightly alcoholic finish.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Not old. Pours with small head, thick legs, deep clear golden amber. Aroma is strong dank piny and spicy resin hops, brown sugar. Flavor is very straightforward bitter and more resiny hops with booze over powering the somewhat fruity sweetness and sugars. Feel is oily and a little wooden with soft moderate carbonation. Itís hitting the spot though not remarkable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Copper color with medium head. Aroma is malt, malt syrup, caramel, and hop resin. Good balance of hops and malt. Maybe more on the matly side. Solid bitter finish. Medium body (at least). Slight warming alcohol. Average carbonation. A solid barley wine, not the best Iíve had, but solid.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark golden medium bodied, aroma of fruit, flavors of sweet caramel, medium bitterness. Overall for the high alcohol content Duck-Rabbit is a laid back and dare say easy drinking barley wine.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle from ?. Beautiful copper pour, murky clarity (cannot see through) with mostly diminishing off-white fizzy head. Fair but spotty lacing. Sweet dark fruity aroma, underlying citrus hop and alcohol aromas. Light bitter dark fruit up front with a medium citrus hop on the finish. Soft carbonation and oily texture on the palate. There was alot going on here, I may have missed a few things but overall I liked it.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
3/6/14. Bottle bought 11/2012. Yum....poured dark copper with thin head that slowly faded. Nice rich fruit nose with a hint of hop. Deep round mouth with a hint of sour. Wonderfully complex. Drunk side by side with an early 2014 and a much more interesting drink.
