3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted on 2/27/14 from a capped 12oz bottle purchased at Whole Foods. Pours deep amber, just letting a bit of fiery light through, with a huge, rocky beige head that slowly recedes to thick, rocky lace. The nose is some nutty cocoa nib malt with a nice dose of spicy and green hops bitterness, and just a touch of fruity esters. The flavor is on the lighter side with the spicy and bitter hops coming through nicely and even a bit more fruitiness than on the nose. The body is medium with very lively carbonation and a long spicy hops and lightly nutty/fruity finish.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown, with a moderate head which quickly fades. No lacing. Nose is citrusy hops. Taste is spicy and hoppy. Not one I’d buy again.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle into shaker. Dark brown. Malty aroma. Dark chocolate, coffee, ginger taste. Smooth finish. None of the hops, bitterness, or flowery aroma that are advertised are present. This is more like a porter to me.

Sucks. I don’t like this brewery much based on the beers I have rated. I don’t even think this is a brown?? Slight coffee and musk in aroma cloudy red brown pour. Taste is hoppy throughout but not enjoyable at all

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: Murky brown color with red tints. Foamy light brown head that settles down to an uneven head like pond scum. Malty aroma with a smoky flavor. Fairly full body with a burnt, bitter finish.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours brown and clear with an amber tint. Head is bubbly foam and beige. Some thickness and lacing. Aroma is nutty, earthy roasted malt. Taste is surprisingly bitter-focused. Quite crisp and active on the palate. Earthy notes and roast malt. Astringent and bitter aftertaste. Plenty of taste here, which was unexpected and appreciated. However, I don't know that I like the taste - just too unbalanced. Wish it brought out a bit more sweet caramel or chocolate.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at their taphouse in Farmville. Dark amber’ish brown color with off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, nuttiness with light citrus hop backing. Taste adds some roastiness, kind of a earthiness to it, balanced with some hop bitterness. Medium body, medium carbonation, malty, nutty, with slight bitter roast finish. Seems hoppier then the average brown ale and I like it.
