4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 11, 2014 bought a bottle at zillies market on Ocracoke. Pours deep black- beautifully opaque with a thin tan head. definitely something to this one- pours more similar to the stouts I have been drinking lately than your typical black ale. Lots of hops- piney with sweet toasty warmth from the hops. the NZ hop- Motueka- is a nice touch. something different that makes the conoisseur go mmmm. chocolate, earthy, sweet, hoppy. my favourite offering from duck- rabbit.
05/10/14 Had as part of flight at Juicy Lucy’s. Best one of the four. Still really good- smooth. Average mouthfeel- not super heavy. All flavors play nicely together. Smooth, but not sweet. Hoppy, but not bitter. Excellent.

Shift drink at the bar. This beer was flying under the radar with customers. Well built Black IPA, darkest body, roast and malt backbone. Bitterness is on the citrus side and completes Hoppy Bunny.

On tap at Front Street in Phila. Pours a light black/brown. Decent frothy light brown head. Minty, hoppy aroma with mild roast/coffee flavor. Mouthfeel is very light and watery. Not much roast in the flavor. Eh, pretty underwhelming black ipa.

Bottle into stout glass. Dark and hoppy. Decent. Not much else. Hidden booze

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pleasing aroma of pine and citrus hops, roasted fennel, and roasted malt; very dark brown color, opaque, khaki head; flavor of toasted malt with a nice dry, ashy/char finish, ample citrus and train bitterness throughout, licorice notes, cocoa, spicy hops, good alcohol bite; medium body, chewy finish; damn fine black IPA and the best of that style that I?ve had in a long time. 12 fl oz bottle.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
My Bottom Line:
Wooden hops meld into roasted coffee, a union leading to dark chocolate, minty herbal bitterness and light roasty acidity.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam protects the darkness.
-Mouthfeel is well fed; not chewy but not light either.
-All flavours are harmonious.
-This is not as intense as your average Black IPA, yet it definitely shares a similar profile.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. Mildly hoppy aroma. A bit of spicy hop flavor. Odd malt taste that clashes with the hops. This comes across as two beers poured together, rather than a beer designed from the ground up. Disappointing as I usually love all things Duck-Rabbit.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap. Black with brown head. Aroma of pine and chocolate. Flavor is smooth and texture is lightly carbonated. I’d say smack in the middle of a stout and IPA, maybe more of a hoppy stout.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Its alright. I guess I’m not crazy about Black IPA. Decent citrus and resin hop aromas and flavor, creamy roasted malts, but I just can’t make them really want to be together.
