COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Duck-Rabbit Hoppy Bunny American Black Ale is both intensely hoppy and intensely BLACK! Eight separate hop additions offer delicious bitterness and beguiling hop aroma/flavor. Heavily represented among these hops are Chinook, which provides deep pine and sticky citrus components and a New Zealand hop called Motueka, from which we get bright fruit and spearmint notes.

Great beer. The aroma is medium with notes of hops and malty sweetness. The taste is a resinousess hoppy start with a smooth roasted malt finish.

Fine beer. It's is dark as night with a khaki head. Mild bitterness. Slight hop aroma. Definite roast as well. A bit sweet. Probably too sweet for my liking. Is like a tad more hop aroma. And maybe a tad more hop taste to play better with the roastiness. A little thin feeling. All in all I like all the beers I've had over the years from the DR this is no different. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It pours a dark brown with very little light that comes through it. It has a brown head that does produce some lacing. It has aromas of caramel and roast. The combination of spearmint and citrus hops gives it a very perfume like aroma. There are flavors of roast, spearmint notes, citrus, some burnt characteristics, and chocolate. It has a moderate feel with a fairly heavy bitter finish. Overall this is a unique take on a black IPA in that the spearmint gives the roast and chocolate and the citrus hops a sweet tinge to it.

Shift drink at the bar. This beer was flying under the radar with customers. Well built Black IPA, darkest body, roast and malt backbone. Bitterness is on the citrus side and completes Hoppy Bunny.

On tap at Front Street in Phila. Pours a light black/brown. Decent frothy light brown head. Minty, hoppy aroma with mild roast/coffee flavor. Mouthfeel is very light and watery. Not much roast in the flavor. Eh, pretty underwhelming black ipa.

Bottle into stout glass. Dark and hoppy. Decent. Not much else. Hidden booze ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Poured a flattish black with beige head. Piney resin, some pepper and deep malts.

Pleasing aroma of pine and citrus hops, roasted fennel, and roasted malt; very dark brown color, opaque, khaki head; flavor of toasted malt with a nice dry, ashy/char finish, ample citrus and train bitterness throughout, licorice notes, cocoa, spicy hops, good alcohol bite; medium body, chewy finish; damn fine black IPA and the best of that style that I?ve had in a long time. 12 fl oz bottle.

Bottle to glass, Dark black, creamy whitehead. Aroma is charred malt. Fennel? Mint? Some interesting aromas going on. Taste is malt, ash, spice, more fennel....is this beer or Sausage? Really good beervwurh some interesting flavor.

My Bottom Line:
Wooden hops meld into roasted coffee, a union leading to dark chocolate, minty herbal bitterness and light roasty acidity.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam protects the darkness.
-Mouthfeel is well fed; not chewy but not light either.
-All flavours are harmonious.
-This is not as intense as your average Black IPA, yet it definitely shares a similar profile.

Bottle.

12oz bottle. Mildly hoppy aroma. A bit of spicy hop flavor. Odd malt taste that clashes with the hops. This comes across as two beers poured together, rather than a beer designed from the ground up. Disappointing as I usually love all things Duck-Rabbit.
