COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Duck-Rabbit Hoppy Bunny American Black Ale is both intensely hoppy and intensely BLACK! Eight separate hop additions offer delicious bitterness and beguiling hop aroma/flavor. Heavily represented among these hops are Chinook, which provides deep pine and sticky citrus components and a New Zealand hop called Motueka, from which we get bright fruit and spearmint notes.

Tall 3 finger tan head with lingering lacing. A nice malty, toasty backbone with a well balanced floral and piney hop presence. A dark almost black color

Bottle. Nose of dark roast malt and charry black malt with pine and a touch of cedar, pairing with additional woody hop tones and danker, stickier unders. Sweet with some fruit, predominately well-pairing citrus. Pours dark brown with a very airy tan head that needs to be watched carefully. Taste is burnt, charred, and moderately dry, has a bit of sourish acrid tang and lovely ashen and smoky notes toward the finish. Body is a little flabby but medium-full and pretty drinkable, fruitiness is tones down significantly and we’re left with more wood and fire treatment. Not too bold, actually pretty well balanced and repeatable.

On tap at Carolina Ale House. Pour is dark, moderate head and some nice lacing. Smells like a citrus IPA. It tastes like a citrus IPA with some mild toasty/roasty notes. Pretty well balanced.

On tap sampler at Whole Foods in Market Square in Fairfax, VA. Opaque, near black with a creamy tan head and superb lacing. Aroma of sweet grapefruit, chocolate, toasted malt and pineapple. Taste of grapefruit, chocolate, roasted malt, pineapple and dark toast. Medium body and medium/low carbonization. A grapefruit and chocolate black IPA--definitely different. Nice occasionally, but not as a "go to" regular brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a flat black body with a large frothy light brown head that left some sticky lace. The nose is really chocolaty with a lighter roastiness and some nice fruity hops. The flavor is a little heavier on the Porter side than the IPA side, which is fine by me. Really chocolaty with minimal roast, citrusy and bright hoppiness with just a moderate bitterness. Nice lingering finish. Light to medium bodied with soft gentle carbonation. Pretty nice hoppy Porter, or what ever you want to call it.
