COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Duck-Rabbit Hoppy Bunny American Black Ale is both intensely hoppy and intensely BLACK! Eight separate hop additions offer delicious bitterness and beguiling hop aroma/flavor. Heavily represented among these hops are Chinook, which provides deep pine and sticky citrus components and a New Zealand hop called Motueka, from which we get bright fruit and spearmint notes.

12 oz. Bottle Mahogany colour with a thick, foamy head and strong lacing. A "little chunky" - tastes thick,. as I feel a true dark beer should. Tastes of caramel, bread, hay, cereal, chocolate, and coffee. Nice, balanced hops. Well done here.

Great overall beer. Dark almost black appearance. Flavor is roasty and toasty with a nice touch of hop. Could drink this one all night. Well at least until the keg kicks!

Draft at Taphouse/Queensway. Pitch black, just a bit of sticky head. Drinks with a gritty, dark chocolate essence up front. There’s a tease of some hoppiness but not enough to warrant the moniker IMHO. I’d call this a sturdy porter and move on. (#5023, 5/14/2013)

Served by a brewery rep. at the 2012 NC Brewers Fest. {from notes} A: pours near black with a lasting brown head. The head is creamy and coats the glass on the way down. S Hops plus dark malt. Some spice and pine. T: An excellent and flavorful mix of hops and dark malt -- a generous and well-proportioned mix of both. M: Creamy smooth’ full body is more substantial than might be expected. Semi-dry finish. O: excellent and highly drinkable.

On draught at The Taphouse in Hampton. Pours a deep black color with a medium thick and foamy tan head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney hops, citrus and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of resiny hops, toasted malt and citrus. The finish is malty up front with a piney hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Tap. Pours opaque black with a small brown head and perfect lacing. Aroma is really roasty, with notes of pine and citrus as well. Flavor is about the same, lightly sweet, light bitter, quite roasted. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. Nice beer.

bought a bottle at zillies market on Ocracoke. Pours deep black- beautifully opaque with a thin tan head. definitely something to this one- pours more similar to the stouts I have been drinking lately than your typical black ale. Lots of hops- piney with sweet toasty warmth from the hops. the NZ hop- Motueka- is a nice touch. something different that makes the conoisseur go mmmm. chocolate, earthy, sweet, hoppy. my favourite offering from duck- rabbit.

Bottle. Pours dark with a huge airy head. Very carbonated. Hoppy aroma. Waited for foam to die down and beer to warm a bit. Less hoppy taste then what aroma would suggest. Light malty flavor kind of like a cross between an IPA and stout.

Pours like a stout: black/red with thick head. Smells like a smokey, chocolate-laced IPA. Tastes like hoppy dark chocolate with a bunch of espresso in it. Bitter finishing notes, with some sticky linger.

Bottle. Pours clear black with a large, creamy and frothy tan head, medium-long retention with good lacing. Aroma is earthy, pine, and grapefruit hops, light roast and chocolate malt with raisin and plum esters. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness with a supporting dark malt backbone, balanced to hops, dark fruity esters with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
