3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Originally reviewed: 11/9/09. Poured into my pint glass. Pours a dark amber/orange with about an inch’s worth of ivory head on top. Little retention, but it left some good lace on the side of the glass. Smells of toasted malts, caramel, and light floral hops.
The mouth is crisp with a moderate amount of carbonation. Nice sweet caramel starts this beer out. Flavors of bread and crackers fill it in; finishes with a mild hop bite. This is pretty good. This is one of their better beers. I’m glad they’ve ventured into the world of lagers. Nice work, Duck-Rabbit!

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a clear deep copperish-brown with a thin soapy head. No head retention at all and also no lacing. Pretty disappointing.
Aroma is an interesting mixture of caramel, vegetables, and metal. Some apple notes too.
The flavor is a little better but still an odd mixture of what seem to be off-flavors. Caramel and fruit are more pronounced with apples figuring in even more prominently. A touch of tartness with a bit of a chalky finish.
Overall, this beer just seems a bit "off". Not sure if it is a sanitation issue or a yeast issue but there are definitely off-flavors here. Really needs to be cleaned up.

A tasty Oktoberfest beer, I have to admit, this brewery is growing on me. Malty aroma and taste, balanced with a slight bitter hop flavor.

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
The aroma is weak, although I can whiff some bread and other malts. It is amber in color with a weak head. The bread and caramel taste is decent, but a bit more carbonation flavor is present than I would like.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
bottle 37,5 cl. Pours a red amber with a small white head and an aroma of malts and dark bread. The taste is pretty sweet, with some notes of malt and caramel. There’s some hoppy bitterness to be tasted somewhere, but this beer is mainly sweet. It’s a drinkable beer, but I don’t really like it.

On tap at the Mellow in Asheville. Bright copper with a tiny head. Soft malt aroma and all malt taste. Just what I was looking for!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Hazy amber color with a small head. Malty nose with a lot of spice. Flavor shows some clear spicing, similar to a malty version of some pumpkin ales. It’s full-bodied for the style yet still quite drinkable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from bottle into shaker. Pours a reddish gold color with a 1 finger head which rapidly reduces to a skim. Aroma - lots of malt on the nose, some spiciness from the hops. Taste - lots of caramel initially, then some biscuit notes, a touch spicy, goes back to a nice caramelly finish. Nicely carbonated, with good finish and really pretty clean. This is a really nice marzen.
