3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle into English pint glass, dark brown’ish black color with dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, light coffee and some creamer. Taste is more bitter chocolate, ash, caramel and sugar sweetness. Medium body, low carbonation, creamy, sticky with sweet roasty finish. Solid.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark brown beer with a good white head. Smells coffee, creamer, roasted and chocolate. Tastes cream, coffee and chocolate. Thin body, sticky texture and an average carbo. I would have liked the carbo a bit less fizzy and the body some thicker. But overall a nice sweet stout.

An extremely smooth, fresh milk stout , dark as night, dark chocolate essence that lingers for a while. Easy to drink, medium body with almost no head. Excellent milk stout.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught @ Galaxy Hut, Arlington, VA. Pours hazy very dark brown with nearly no head at all. CleR aroma of chocolate and malt, as is the taste. Subtle, non-aggressive coffeelike and malty aftertaste. OK.

4.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Smoothest of smoothies, silkiest of silkies, velvetiest of velvets. I could grant much more than five to the über perfect palate of this wonderfully black sweet stout. The flavour is just wonderful bitter chocolate balanced by also wonderful lactose sweetness, with flan and crème brûlée. The bitterness is just for charm. Nothing exaggerate, neither herbal, no excess of hops. Nothing contemporary. This is the good old milk stout. If it wasn’t for the strong aroma of filberts/hazelnuts, which I do not like, this would be the prefect milk stout experience.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
This is my favorite beer, though I can’t get it in AZ. Small brewery that makes small batches and always quality. Dark beer, creamy and smooth with a heavy flavor. The beer that turned me on to milk stouts.

3.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is another bottle we got from Ashley. I think we have reviewed almost all of the bottles she sent. She did send a few bombers from Westbrook that were not on the list, but we are drinking those sparingly. EVERYTHING that brewery makes is great. We have a DIPA left from them. I want another bottle/can of the gose. That was just a delicious salty treat. Tonight we are reviewing a dark beer from the Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery known as… Well, Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout.
I have heard a lot of great things about this beer. Ashley raves about it. I like the style, but only as it warms up. I will be curious if this is any different than the other milk stouts that I have had in the past. The best milk stout I have had to date is the Left Hand Milk Stout… But only on nitro. The Left Hand Milk Stout, both in the bottle and on tap, is gross compared to the same beer on nitro. Let’s hope the Duck-Rabbit is legit. Cheers! (We are drinking this outside… So the beer should heat up faster than normal.)
In the Glass: This beer is dark as night… So yeah, these guys are the dark beer specialists! I was looking at pictures of the brewery online, and this brewery looks like a garage! It is SO small. I had heard about this beer even before we started writing this blog. 2 beers are on the list from Duck-Rabbit. I wish I knew where they got the name… The beer also had a nice head and is leaving a lovely sticky lace that I didn’t expect. I hope it smells good!
Nose: It smells like metal. I am talking straight wrought iron. I know they use lactose in this, but this is the most metallic milk stout I have ever stuck my nose in. Actually, if we were not reviewing this and I ordered a sample, I would say no just due to the aroma. I am not pleased with the smell on this. Ashely, you raved about this beer. It better taste better than it smells. Here goes nothing.
Flavor: That is MUCH better than it smells. The mouthfeel might be my favorite part, but I will get to that. The beer is quite complex, and leaves a nice almost chocolate flavor in my mouth. This is a beer that would be great paired with dessert. Heck, this bottle might be a great dessert. I do like to drink meals from time to time.
This is a beer that will go from good to great as it heats up. Although, I do enjoy this beer cold. I bet this would be GREAT on nitro. See… Left Hand has spoiled me.
Mouthfeel: This beer is simply creamy and delicious. The beer hits my tongue with an almost pillow affect that leaves my mouth craving more. The beer is also quite carbonated, but that doesn’t change my experience much. I need to move to the aftertaste because this is just hanging on for dear life.
Aftertaste: I LOVE the mouthfeel here, but the aftertaste is great. There is a LOT of candy in my office, and people are tossing around chocolate left and right. Remember the last time you took a bite of a candy bar and the chocolate flavor stuck around for several minutes? That is what I am getting here. I haven’t taken a drink in 5 minutes, but my mouth is still going crazy with flavor. I dig it.
Ashley, I understand why you like this. I am serious, though. I HATE the aroma. But the flavor is great. I bet this would be a great barrel aged beer, too. By the looks of the Duck-Rabbit brewery, I doubt they have the room to age beers. Guys, I am impressed. I hope the other bottle from them is just as good. Cheers!
