Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 20, 2008 12oz bottle courtesy of my Summer Secret Santa. Dark brown pour with a huge, loosely compacted chocolate brown head. Made up mostly of carbonation bubbles, this thing dies away fairly quickly but is still an impressive sight. No real evidence of lacing anywhere, so that knocks down the appearance a few notches. Nose of roasted coffee grounds, rich chocolate milk, hot cocoa powder and dairy creamer. The back end of the aroma brings an unpleasant chalky note into the fold, almost musty, but thankfully is just at the very back end. Fore is sweet milk chocolate, some coffee roast, lactose sweetness and some caramel. Back end brings a lot more sugary sweetness into the mix, almost cola like at times, but always backed by a rich milk chocolate and malt pairing. Medium bodied, very creamy and feels more substantial than what it really is, I guess thanks to the milk sugars present. Finish is chocolate, malts, some coffee, milk and then more chocolate taking me all the way through the super long finale. Finally had my first brew from these guys and I was not disappointed in the least. Good stuff. oldrinkin (3), rocky point, North Carolina, USA does not count Jan 20, 2008 For a stout, the milk stout hit the nail on the head....most def worthy of a near perfect rating.....cudos to the duckrabbitbrewery. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Jan 20, 2008 Tap @ Mellow Mushroom Asheville, NC. Pours a clear dark dark brown with a one finger tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium full mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness balanced by a sweet finish. Very good. jcr (1137), Jasper, Indiana, USA Jan 18, 2008 Bottle. The sweet milk sugar is the first thing I noticed when I took a whiff of this stout. Though the sweet side dominates, it is nicely balanced with bitter and stout dryness. The pour reveals a dark but not opaque brown/black body. The head is average sized and a fizzy light brown. The aroma is sweet with molasses and milk chocolate. Some roasted malts and grain follow, along with vanilla and a faint scent of coffee. The flavor is moderately sweet, but finishes moderately bitter and dry. Medium body, lively carbonation. The texture is quite smooth. Enjoyable. bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 10, 2008 Bottle: Pours a dark black with a massive, rocky, tan head. Aroma is a coffee-infused rich chocolate milkshake. Dark malts and a subtle anise present. Medium bodied mouth feel, very well carbonated. This tastes exactly like a homemade dark chocolate chunk cookie dunked in a big glass of milk. The sweetness of this doesn’t once become distracting or off-putting but drives this home wonderfully. This is the perfect dessert beer, especially anything that is made with rich chocolate and dark fruits. Wonderful stuff. ChetLemmons (87), orlando, Florida, USA Jan 1, 2008 my lovely girlfriend picked this up for me while in north carolina for xmas. poured a thick dark, with a nice thick frothy head. head reduced quickly, but left a great lacing. chocolate, roasted aroma. more carbonated than i had expected, thus not as smooth as anticipated. overall medium bodied. almost felt like drinking seltzer water mixed with a stout. roasted chocolate in flavor, with a hint of lactose and alcohol in the aftertaste. was hard for me to look past the excessive carbonation. i could not drink too many of these, nor would i probably want to, but overall not bad. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Dec 26, 2007 From bottle : Pours a rich dark brown color, with a light brown head that leaves nice lacing around the glass. The head was a nice size to begin with but showed poor retention. Nose of roasted chocolate, oak, dough, and a faint cherry smell. Flavor is much the same with the roasted chocolate and oak, not so much the cherry in the taste though, the flavor should be a little bigger and bolder i think. Medium body with a smooth feeling on the palate. I little hint of alcohol on the aftertaste. Not to bad, but not the best. Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 25, 2007 Dark mahogany brown in color, this brew sports reddish highlights at the edges when held to a light source. A large and extremely foamy tan head displays excellent retention, but leaves minimal spotty, sudsy lacing behind on the glass. The aroma is quite lactic, as the name suggests. Notes of baker’s chocolate, charred oak, and light soy sauce are met with a slightly milky, smoothing element. The flavor profile follows suit, though is perhaps a bit more roasty and less lactic than the nose indicates. Charred oak, dark chocolate and coffee tend to dominate, with subtle hints of cream fading into the background. Medium bodied, the swallow produces a long and roasty finish. Very dry on th palate for a sweet stout. Fits more of a traditional stout mold in my opinion. Decent brew, but far from anything special.
