Commercial Description:
A traditional full-bodied stout brewed with lactose (milk sugar). The subtle sweetness imparted by the lactose balances the sharpness of the highly roasted grains which give this delicious beer its black color.

Aroma is fantastic, the best I’ve found among milk stouts. Smells strongly of nuttiness, milk, chocolate, slight coffee presence. Almost tastes like carbonated chocolate milk. A departure from the stouts I would normally drink, but worth the trip. This one came as a surprise, bought a case of it for after-dinner consumption.

Pours a deep brown, almost black, with ruby edges an a dense tan head. Nose is of mocha coffee, milk chocolate, raisins, and gives the impression of malted milk balls. The flavour is chocolately, roasted malt with an initial lactic tang and an alcoholic, cherry-like fruity finish. There is a woody, bitter, but almost sour, hop finish. Creamy yet tingly mouthfeel with a lingering roasty, yet sour aftertaste that is a little too alcoholic.

Bottle from Decaturstevo - thanks! Dark brown, a hint of ruby shines through. Solid tan head. Nose is alcohol, cocoa, some very dark toffee notes, something vaguely spicy. Flavor is cocoa, that spicing, chocolate covered cherries. Slight tingle (alc? hops?) at the finish where burnt malt comes into play. More of that dark toffee too. Solid and a style I don’t typically encounter.

Big lactic nose with mild tobacco and smoke. Very lactic up front with a very roasted and mildly chalky palate. Lingering roasted finish.

This beer had an extremely thin presence and was super carbonated. The flavor had a terrible funk to it took a few sips to get used to, but I did make it though it. Not my favorite.

Bottle courtesy of ucusty. Pours just wonderfully. Dark black with glints of red when you hold it up to the light. Great rocky head with nice lacing. Aromas of roasted grains, warm chocolate milk and oatmeal. Full bodied and a creamy carbonation. Sweet roasted flavor with some cocoa and woody tastes the backgound...light astringincy as well. Really enjoyed this beer....thanks ucusty!
