nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 13, 2007 Updated: Feb 2, 2009Bottle, best by 06-07. Eight ball-colored liquid with small, brown sugar head that can’t hang around. Aroma is smoking wok with toasted sesame oil, and some metallic-sour lactic acid and/or hop. Taste is similar, slowly turning to chocolate and dry smoked-coffee. Nice hoppy, prickly finish. The sweetness is subtle as advertised, mostly evident is the sharpness of the roasted grains - smokiness and coffee. Palate is medium, somewhat creamy, and tingly. mhelgason (495), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Apr 11, 2007 Bottle. Average creamy-frothy (mostly dissapating) head that leads into black body. Pretty good lacing. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts (big suprise, huh?). Flavor is initially sweet and finishes sweeter. Long finish duration. Medium bodied. Syrupy textured. Flat carbonation. As I have stated with other milk stouts that I have tried....this is a good beer but a little too sweet for me.
The more I drink the more I notice the weird touch of sour in the finish...just thought I would mention it. Hangover (764), Atlanta, USA Apr 7, 2007 Deep brown pour with a nice sized and creamy tan head. Aroma is very much coffee with minimal chocolate and a lot of roasted malt. Pretty intense flavor, very robust and roasted coffee, citrus hops pretty evident towards the finish. Finish is some vanilla and burnt bitterness. Something isn’t right about this, I think the body is a bit too rough. Heavily carbonated and a bit too hoppy for this style. Still good though. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Apr 4, 2007 definetly soem sweetness in the nose, but its throwing me off. flavour is awful, i cant drink this. i’m not sure why........it’s sour, and has a certain flavour that is really detracting from any redemable qualities. irishsnake (353), Oakland, California, USA Apr 1, 2007 pours a bing-cherry black with a tan head that retains well and leaves good lace. roast aromatics run to the sharper, coffee side of things. flavor starts with a bite of roast bite, but mellows out nicely in a wave of thickening sugars. A very nice milk stout - not as sweet and insipid as they often are. a little confused in the aftertaste. TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 1, 2007 Pours a deep brown with a foamy/creamy tan head that left some lnice acing. Aroma of chocolate, sweet citrus hops, more fruity than I would originally expect from this style. Flavor is chocolate, roasted sweet malts, some cappucino, lactose and oats. Had some lingering hop bitterness and flavor. NIce bit of roasted malts that linger. Comments: A rather simple sweet stout, faultless, but sweet enough that I would not want a whole pint. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 28, 2007 Bottle courtesy bleacherbum. Thanks! Pours a clear dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa and molasses. Creamy, silky medium body that would probably seem full with a touch less carbonation. More chocolate in the taste, along with vanilla, roasted nuts, and fruit. A touch of pine and grapefruit hops shine through the bittersweet finish. This one brings some nice flavors through, flavors that sometimes get lost in the sweetness of other milk stouts.
