Comments: A rather simple sweet stout, faultless, but sweet enough that I would not want a whole pint. bitbucket (2027), Kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 28, 2007 Bottle courtesy bleacherbum. Thanks! Pours a clear dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa and molasses. Creamy, silky medium body that would probably seem full with a touch less carbonation. More chocolate in the taste, along with vanilla, roasted nuts, and fruit. A touch of pine and grapefruit hops shine through the bittersweet finish. This one brings some nice flavors through, flavors that sometimes get lost in the sweetness of other milk stouts. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Mar 24, 2007 Cola-black body with a very large, creamy, light tan head. Nose of Dutch processed cocoa, espresso and leather, primarily, with vegetal undertones. Sweet and cream-like at first with chocolate and coffee. Finishes slightly drier with a roasty bitterness. Hops are pretty much non-existant to me and there’s a vegetal flavor in the aftertaste. A red-grape acidity creeps up as the beer warms. Creamy mouthfeel and decently think, but way over carbonated (not a problem with a sturdy pour and some swirling, but still.) 12 oz bottle, snifter. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 17, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Sugary lactose joins the dry roastiness in a vanilla-like diplomatic sweetness which is diluted by the light tartness perceived in the finish. Yet another well-crafted beer from Duck Rabbit, right on style and very drinkable.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam provides some lacing around the browned black.
-The lovely body coats the palate while its fine carbonation quickly washes the plump impression away.
-Supporting hops are felt, but don’t bring much to the flavor profile.
Bottle; best before June ’07. molassesfan (201), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Mar 16, 2007 Updated: Mar 18, 2007Pours dark with a nice tan head. Aroma of roastiness and chocolate. Flavor is full of roasted malt and not much else, maybe a little hops. This is a love-or-hate offering, but not much of a milk stout. scoobyluv (486), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Mar 14, 2007 dark brown with a thick tan head. this smelled like dumpster. it was fucking foul and tasted like sour dumpster. it was horrible but i’m a trooper and finished much to my friends’ chagrin. maybe i got a bad bottle gwpom (246), Akron, New York, USA Mar 11, 2007 12 oz bottle from beerlord’s mom’s trip to NC. Got to taste both the porter and the milk stout, and I agree with beerlords’ assessment that the porter was better. The only thing close I’ve had to a ’milk stout’ is the SA Cream Stout which I really love. This has a nice appearance and aroma, but the taste is just a little off, and I can’t place what it is. Whatever it is, whenever there is an ’off-taste’ to a beer, that will usually put me off on it. Seems like a good brewery though, and would like to try other selections. markgugs (86), Wood Ridge, New Jersey, USA Mar 10, 2007 poured from a 12oz. bottle into a dimpled glass mug, beer thanks to mikesgroove :-)
A: Pours very dark brown, nearly black, looks "burnt" and features a big pillowy beige head.
S: Not what I was expecting, this ale’s aromas fall somewhere between sweet and soapy, with a touch of grass or hay. Some mildly piney hops scents in there too.
T/M: Thankfully the soapy aromas don’t translate over into the beer, so it’s back in business. The initial nose is very sweet, with some predominantly milk chocolate flavoring right up front and not hiding. Nice feel to the beer too, I found it to be quite lip-smacking and sugary, though there is nearly no finish to speak of.
D: While I enjoyed this beer for the most part, and it’s relatively reasonable ABV make it a beer that’s easy enough to put back a few, I didn’t find myself going ga-ga over this one. Probably wouldn’t seek this out too often.
