4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Iíve had this one before, but never on tap. I went with my wife to the Hard Times Cafe in Woodbridge, VA and this was the last beer of my session:
Ap: Pours almost totally black, with slight hints of light shining through as the session progressed. It had about 1/6 inch of head and the carbonation was undetectable, due to the dark color of the beverage.
Ar: Roasted grains and coffee, but definitely not Maxwell House...something more gourmet.
T: Great balance. The detectable lactose smooths out the coffee, adding sweetness, body, and thick texture. I tasted this right after the pour in which the beer may be colder than craft beer drinkers like it to be. This stout (and milk stouts in general) actually taste good that way - sort like a milkshake.
P: I already mentioned thick texture, but perhaps a better word would be creamy.
O: If Iím really in the mood for stouts and this one is available, I could drink this all day. This is the best beer in Duck Rabbitís standard lineup.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
EBD 6/16. Pours black as a starless night. World class head volume, lacing and retention.
Outstanding nose of roast, milk chocolate, caramel and sweet lactose.
A disappointing heavy light body that is smooth in texture. Superb carbonation with a solid effervescent middle and a nice prickly burst in the finish.
The good flavor profile lacks intensity and complexity. It is well balanced. Mild roast flavor over a semi-sweet base. Hints of chocolate arrive in the middle along with a mild bitterness, predominately from the roast. The finish is a slow fade of previous flavors.

Light almost. Not a huge after taste. Not hugely sweet and tastes dark but not too much. Light aroma.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
first time trying a beer from this regional brewery. pleasantly surprised. by it taste. The beer had a black appearance with a thin tan head, my only disappointment.. Aroma is that of a roasted malt. Flavor is that of being in a chocolate factory and getting to try the samples. starts with raw cocoa beans, then transforms smoothly to bitter dark baking chocolate and ends with milky like chocolate covered fruit. Smooth. Very good stout. Anxious to try other products from this brewery.
