COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A traditional full-bodied stout brewed with lactose (milk sugar). The subtle sweetness imparted by the lactose balances the sharpness of the highly roasted grains which give this delicious beer its black color.

Reviewed 9-13-10. Iíve had this one before, but never on tap. I went with my wife to the Hard Times Cafe in Woodbridge, VA and this was the last beer of my session: Ap: Pours almost totally black, with slight hints of light shining through as the session progressed. It had about 1/6 inch of head and the carbonation was undetectable, due to the dark color of the beverage. Ar: Roasted grains and coffee, but definitely not Maxwell House...something more gourmet. T: Great balance. The detectable lactose smooths out the coffee, adding sweetness, body, and thick texture. I tasted this right after the pour in which the beer may be colder than craft beer drinkers like it to be. This stout (and milk stouts in general) actually taste good that way - sort like a milkshake. P: I already mentioned thick texture, but perhaps a better word would be creamy. O: If Iím really in the mood for stouts and this one is available, I could drink this all day. This is the best beer in Duck Rabbitís standard lineup.

Poured from a bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a thin off white ring. Roasted malt with a string coffee aroma. Feels a little thin but silky smooth. Decent malt flavor that isnít too strong or too weak. Very smooth finish. Just a little too light for my preference in stout. Surprisingly refreshing.

First sample from newly distributed NC beer. About what I expected. Dark black appearance with not much mocha head. Creamy low carbonation feel. Flavors of chocolate malt, lactose, coffee, a little bitter/burnt sugar. Nothing super-special, but good and solid. I only sampled a single for now, but this is one I could grab a 6íer of.

Bottle to goblet to start off my new years eve celebration. Loved this beer about 10 years ago when I had it in a beer if the month gift from brother Jon. It was great then, and still very nice now. Look is Dark black, off white head. Aroma is Toasted malt, smoke, salty oyster stout like aroma. Taste is bread, wine, malt. Thinnish feel for a stout, but smooth.

Tap. Moderate toasted and milk chocolate for the malt, light herbs and earth for the hops and yeast, with a hint of bourbon in the background. Head is large, frothy, light tan, with good lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and slightly bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, silky, with a soft to lively carbonation. Smoothness and richness abound in this super tasty Sweet Stout.

Small sampling feom 12 oz bottle. Served in tulip. Very little head. Light lacing. Beer is dark in color. Aroma is sweetly malty with light roasted malts. Taste is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Some notes of chocolate. Light carbonation. Medium to full bodied beer. Overall great milk stout.

Approximately 4 oz. from 12 oz. bottle, consumed on 10-1-15. Pours a dark brown with light beige head. Scents of milk chocolate and chocolate-covered raisins. Very pleasant, sweet flavor. A touch of tartness in the finish. Medium body. Unremarkable palate effects. Nice beer. Not my kind of beer but likable.

EBD 6/16. Pours black as a starless night. World class head volume, lacing and retention. Outstanding nose of roast, milk chocolate, caramel and sweet lactose. A disappointing heavy light body that is smooth in texture. Superb carbonation with a solid effervescent middle and a nice prickly burst in the finish. The good flavor profile lacks intensity and complexity. It is well balanced. Mild roast flavor over a semi-sweet base. Hints of chocolate arrive in the middle along with a mild bitterness, predominately from the roast. The finish is a slow fade of previous flavors.
