Commercial Description:
A traditional full-bodied stout brewed with lactose (milk sugar). The subtle sweetness imparted by the lactose balances the sharpness of the highly roasted grains which give this delicious beer its black color.

Bottle Dark black pour with creamy tan head. Aroma of toasted malts and coffee. Thick but crisp mouthfeel with flavor of coffee and malts. Coffeeish aftertaste, but finishes clean. Great beer.

This beer had an extremely thin presence and was super carbonated. The flavor had a terrible funk to it took a few sips to get used to, but I did make it though it. Not my favorite.

Draught at the Brick Store Pub in Atlanta. Pours dark black with a small brown head. Somewhat thin toasted malt aroma, with a bit of nuttiness and sweetness. Flavor a somewhat odd mixture of heavy roastiness with a bitter character, and a bit of lactose sweetness. Well balanced and pretty good.

Roasted barley character is nice. Not much of a milk stout, lactose is barely discernible. Nice mellow grainy dark malt character. Almost too mellow to the point of grossness. A bit vegetal.

Bottle. Average creamy-frothy (mostly dissapating) head that leads into black body. Pretty good lacing. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts (big suprise, huh?). Flavor is initially sweet and finishes sweeter. Long finish duration. Medium bodied. Syrupy textured. Flat carbonation. As I have stated with other milk stouts that I have tried....this is a good beer but a little too sweet for me. ___The more I drink the more I notice the weird touch of sour in the finish...just thought I would mention it.

Completely opaque, black with a thin, brown head. Great dark fruit aroma with soft, subtle roast, sweetness, and toasted, dried milk. Very easy to drink but not overly complex. This is not a derogatory comment, this is a beautiful beer. It has a balanced impact and a great flavor. This is the best milk stout I have ever had.

From notes 12/20/04: Pours a deep dark ruby, so much so that it appears black to the dimly lit room, but upon introduction to light, the rich ruby tones really shine. Head is short-lived, but when it is around, it exhibits a creamy tan nature. Little lacing. Aromas give the nose a treat with roasty malts, cafe mochas, and sweet sugariness. Flavors are very sweet, with virtual sugar crystals sticking to your lips with each sip. Roasty qualities are there, but the sweetness of this beer rules the day. Slight smokiness in the aftertaste. Minimal hop balance. Needs a touch more oomph in the body. Drinkable, though. This milk stout sure does utilize milk sugars. Sweet dessert.
