I have been meaning to try the entire line of Duck Rabbit beers so when the opportunity presented itself to pick up a few more I got singles of many I have not yet tried. This was the first one I sampled and if it is any indication I can’t wait to get to the rest later this week.
Aroma / Appearance - A one finger dense packed head settled above the reddish black body. Coffee with a blend of creamer and Hershey’s chocolate set the tone. There was also a hint of rye toast making this an ideal pairing for breakfast.
Flavor / Palate - The fluid creamy mouthfeel immediately yields the sensation of iced coffee, skim milk and vanilla creamer. Next comes a lingering dryness like that found in powdered milk. The sweet yet smooth finish highlights an enjoyable experience. If this were on tap at a local bar it might slip into my "go to" rotation.4
drewbeerme (1716), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 22, 2008 12oz bottle shared by xnoxhatex. pours dark brown with big fizzy head. nose is sweet milk chocolate, dark fruit, and licorice. flavor pretty much follows the aroma. a bit fizzy mouth feel. some more roasted malts, a fully body, and less fizzy carbonation would help this out a bit. xnoxhatex (778), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 22, 2008 Bottle thanks to the duck rabbit guy. Almost gusher. Dark brown with large fizzy brown head. Sweet milk chocolate aroma with some roasted malt. Flavor is much the same with some bakers chocolate as well with lots of dark fruit. Medium well carbonated body. Very nice, sweetness doesnt take away from it at all. GAManiac (217), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark brown out of the bottle that looks almost completely black in the glass. The head is fairly thick and dissipates slowly to a ring with a little lacing. The smell is big on sweet roasted malts with just a hint of oatmeal in the background. There is also a significant milk chocolate aroma as well. The taste mirrors the smell with milk chocolate and roasted malts dominating the taste. It’s like liquid malted milk balls and in a good way. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with good carbonation and very creamy overall. I really enjoyed this stout and it’s one of the better sweet stouts I’ve had recently. Highly recommended! Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle. Brown black body with a tan head. Very sweet and grainy, lactose, cream and a note of coffee. alright. jzzbassman (672), New Albany, Mississippi, USA Jul 6, 2008 Poured a deep dark brown with a tan head. Had me on the typical sweet stout, but had an unpleasant vegetal note in the end.
