Commercial Description:
Very dark in color. This robust porter features a pronounced flavor of roasted grains reminiscent of dark chocolate. Also, Paul and Brandon add oats to the grist to give a subtle round silkiness to the mouthfeel.

Pours dark brown with a fizzy tan head, lasting, and some slight spotty lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate malt (toast, roasted nuts, meal), yeast (dough) and fruit (raisins). Medium sweet chocolate malt, toast, mild bitterness and acidity, coffee notes and a slightly thin finish. Medium bodied, foamy and fizzy palate that ends dry.

Bottle courtesy of Jonathan3584. Bets before date of Dec-05. Dark oily balck with minimal beige head that fades rather quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma is very sweet chocolate syrup up front with a huge roasted/burnt grain background. When swirled lots of dark, bitter chocolate and coffee come through. Flavor again nice sweet chocolate up front, fades to grains and bitter black coffee towards the finish. Coffee is not my strongpoint, but this has a decent, milk/creamy coffee flavor to it. Body thins out way too much. Even a year past the best before date, don’t really get any oxidation.

Bottled. Beer is opaque (or darn close to it), very dark brown with a small, off-white, frothy, diminishing but mostly lasting head.
The aroma is malty with with moderate notes of roasted grain, light note of chocolate, blackstrap molasses; Hoppy with a light note of resin/pine, herbal with a trace-to-light note of thyme, cedar; Yeasty with a trace of dusty attic; Moderate miscellaneous note of plantain, trace of wood.
The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately-to-heavily bitter, lightly acidic with a long, moderately bittersweet, trace acidic finish.
The body is light, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively.

Pours an opaque black with a small, but frothy, wispy-lacing dark khaki head. Aroma boasts some nicely roasted malt, some oatmeal and a touch of piny hops. Starts with a pleasant toasted malty sweetness, some milk chocolate, and a hint of coffee before a thick bittersweet dark chocolate finish. Nicely balanced and very enjoyable. Thanks to SpringsLicker for the bottle!

Black with ruby brown at edges, dark tan head is nice and fades slow. Aroma is a mix of milk chocolate, coffee, and roast. Flavor is dark chocolate and espresso bean. Good body, balanced, nicely done!

Yum, way better than the brown ale. Delicious beer, deep roasty flavor, etc. Likey like.

Bottle. Pours gooey black with a nice big brown head. Fantastic aroma (fairly vinous) with hints of coffee and raisins. As for the taste: The texture is quite smooth for a porter. I’m not sure if I like that or not. Roasted malts, chocolate, and caramel dominate the flavor, which ends in a balanced bitter finish. I am porter lover and this is a fine example of the style.
